Even with school back in session for some, the summer hasn't exactly wound down just yet. The weather is still beautiful and the cooler weather that is just around the corner will allow families to spend plenty of time outdoors enjoying mother nature. Interested in finding some fun games for your backyard that include the whole family?
Washers
This fantastic game has become huge this summer. In backyards everywhere, you will find both store-bought and home made version of this fun game for all ages. If you aren't sure how to play, there is an entire website devoted to the game and it includes game rules, equipment needed and terms you will need to know to play. This game can be played even by some of the youngest players by changing the distance they need to throw. Truly fun for the whole family.
Bolo Toss
This game has so many different names, that Bolo Toss might not be what you know it as. It is also referred to as Ladder Golf, Hillbilly Horseshoes, Lawn Golf, Ladderjack, Blong Ball, Tailgate Golf, Balls on a Rope among several others. The lawn game is played by throwing a two golf balls connected with a rope towards a ladder which is typically constructed out of PVC piping. The different rungs on the ladder are worth different points. It is available at many stores but can also be constructed at home, which makes for an inexpensive backyard lawn game.
Croquet
For many, this game is thought of as a long-gone game of the past. However, it is making a return in the world of backyard games. There are both kid versions, as well as adult versions available. No matter which set you choose to purchase, this game can be enjoyed by all. Not to mention that if you are an avid golfer and wish to instill a love of gold if your youngest of children, it is a great way for them to get started with a large ball and a wider club. The game is loads of fun and children seem to be enthralled with hitting the ball through the holes.
Bocce Ball
This incredibly addicting game that stems from Italy is loads of fun for the whole family but better suited for an older child who can throw a ball. The easiest way to describe the game is like a mini bowling game without the pins. Bocce balls are available at most sporting good stores but to make a more kid friendly game you might wish to purchase a softer ball and show them how to roll them. Some families use tennis balls or raquet balls which are quite a bit smaller than the traditional Bocce ball, but allows for the inclusion of even the youngest child.
Don't forget traditional games such as Horseshoes, Bean bags, Tether Ball and Badminton - all supplies are available at most sporting-goods stores.
