I, Too, Am A Writer

I have really enjoyed reading the recent posts about writing that were written by my fellow home business bloggers Stephanie Romero and Richele McFarlin, who are both writers. I, too, am a writer and sometimes I wonder what people think when I tell them that that is what I do for work. Whenever someone does ask what I do, I explain it thoroughly yet briefly since I am not one to go on and on about myself. I simply say that I’m primarily a stay at home mom, and I practice law and do freelance writing work on a part … Continue reading

Think Yourself Out of That Funk

If you ever feel like you are caught in a permanent tug – of – war between your home-based business and your home life, you are not alone. It is only natural to want to be successful at work, and it is just as natural to want to be a successful parent and homemaker. When you find yourself feeling down because you feel like you are not excelling in one or both of these areas of your life, it is important to take time to address those feelings. Working through the feelings will eventually help you to feel better because … Continue reading

Just For Fun – Your Ancestors’ Horoscopes

Some people really enjoy genealogy. Some people really enjoy astrology. If you enjoy both of these things, then you may be interested in exploring the connection between the two. There are astrologers that can analyze your ancestors if you are able to provide their birth dates. You may have one relative that for some reason really intrigues you, or maybe there is a family group that you do not know much about yet you still feel a strong connection to them. Astrology offers an opportunity to go beyond the names and dates on your pedigree chart and explore the details … Continue reading

Home School Blogger Spotlight: Ready. Set. Read!

Teaching a child how to read can be a daunting task. As a homeschooler and writer about homeschooling topics, one of the most popular questions behind teaching math is teaching how to teach a child to read. Many are intimidated by the task. It does not make things easier that a student is to reading as a leaf to the wind. I had one child who taught himself how to read, one who struggled and currently one who gravitates to numbers, and one more who can “read” her name at two. So where’s a homeschooling mom to turn for advice … Continue reading

How Insurance Underwriters See Halloween

One of the fun things you can do to celebrate Halloween is visit one of those local haunted house attractions set up by a group in your community. For most people, this is good, scary, fun. For insurance underwriters though, it’s a whole lot more scary than it is fun. Where the rest of us see a good time, an underwriter sees potential insurance claims, waiting to happen. Let’s face it, Halloween is a truly bizarre holiday. The things we do to celebrate Halloween are not things that most of us would even consider doing at other times of the … Continue reading

5 Fun Things About This Writer

No matter how serious we can be in life, there has to be some time for fun. You’ve heard the old saying “All work and no play….”, well it’s true. In life it is important to remember that laughing and spending time with those we love should rank high in our priorities in life, even if other priorities require us to be more on the serious side. In honor of that theory, I’d like to take a moment and say hello here in the Fun Blog. Most of you probably know me from several other blogs, namely the Scrapbooking Blog … Continue reading

A Man Called Peter (1955)

Recently I watched a favorite movie of mine. ‘A Man Called Peter’stars Richard Todd as Peter Marshall and Jean Peters as Catherine Wood, who later became his wife. The movie was adapted from the book of the same name written by Catherine Marshall. The movie starts in Scotland with a young boy struggling to go to sea. But God had other plans for Peter Marshall as he found put when God saved him from falling into an abandoned quarry. At that time Peter Marshall vowed to live his life for God. Peter did end up crossing the seas as God’s … Continue reading

An Interview with Writer and Artist (and New Mom) M.C.A. Hogarth

M.C.A. Hogarth is a renaissance woman: artist, writer, businesswoman, and more. I knew of her first for her art, which led me to her stories, which led me to an all around amazing person. I’m happy to be able to share her with you! Aimee: What kind of things do you write about? (Genre, subject matter, themes, what have you.) MCA: I like to write about encountering things that are strange and wondrous and out of your particular context. That could be meeting a unicorn in a forest… or meeting someone from a radically different country. I love learning languages, … Continue reading

Interview With Laugh-Out-Loud Funny Fantasy Author Jim C. Hines

The next victim… I mean friend… in my speculative fiction writer series is Jim C. Hines. Jim’s written some amazingly funny fantasy tales told from the other side — the main character is a goblin, usually considered a bad guy in that type of story. His first two goblin books made me laugh out loud, and the third one (just recently released) is sure to follow suit. I can’t wait to read it! In the meantime, Jim was kind enough to chat about writing, animals, and family. Aimee: What kind of things do you write about? (Genre, subject matter, themes, … Continue reading
