Animal Cupcakesby Teresa McEntire | More from this Blogger 19 Jul 2006 09:28 AM Turn a plain cupcake into an animal cupcake and your children will "roar" with delight. You will need: Cupcakes White frosting Chocolate frosting Tootsie rolls Black decorating gel Decorating bag with round tip or plastic baggie Directions: Lion Follow the directions on the food coloring to make brown coloring. Use a decorating bag and round tip or cut off one corner of a sandwich bag and make the mane. Add facial features with the decorating gel. Roll two small balls out of the tootsie roll and then flatten. Frost them the same color as the mane, let the frosting set up, and then place them on the lion as ears.
Elephant Add a little black decorating gel to some white frosting to make the frosting for the elephant. Then flatten out tootsie rolls to make a trunk shape and the ears. Frost the cupcake then place the trunk and ears on the cupcake and frost. Use the black decorating gel to draw eyes and lines on the trunk. Add some red food coloring to a little white frosting to create pink for the inside of the ears.
Tiger Use yellow and red food coloring to make orange frosting. Frost the tiger. Then use the black decorating gel to make the stripes around the tiger's face. Use tootsie rolls for the ears (same as the Lion), put a little pink frosting for the inside. Draw facial features with the black decorating gel and add a pink triangle nose.
Zebra Frost the cupcake white. Use tootsie roll to make triangular shaped ears and frost them white with pink in the center. Use the black decorating gel to draw on eyes, stripes around the edge of the face, black mane on top, nostrils, and a mouth.
Bear Frost the bear with chocolate frosting or white if you want a polar bear. Use black decorating gel to draw on the facial features. Make the bear's ears the same way as you did the lion's ears also make a larger round ball for the nose. Noah's Ark Cake You can also make a Noah's Ark Cake by cutting a round cake in half, frosting it with chocolate frosting, and either placing on top of a rectangle cake or on a plate by itself. Then add 3 animal cupakes and top with the other half of the round cake.
