Budget Baby Book

Besides vacations and weddings, the most popular theme for scrapbooks is baby. Preserving adorable baby photos, as well as memorabilia, stories and fun facts from the first days of a child’s life is almost irresistible for moms and dads. Fortunately, there are a number of ways you can craft a baby scrapbook without breaking the bank. One of the most convenient options is to tap into free printables. These money-saving embellishments allow you to create an eye-popping baby book without draining Junior’s college fund. All you need is Internet access, a computer and a color printer. My daughter’s baby scrapbook … Continue reading

Creepy Baby Book: Love You Forever

Can reading to your child really make a difference? The experts think so, and I am inclined to agree with them. However, some of the books that are often recommended for babies, seem to me, pretty scary. Either these books send the wrong message in my opinion or they are creepy. Have you come across any books like this? One book that I have thought was creepy from the moment I saw it is Love You Forever by Robert N Munsch. Many people absolutely love this book and say it touches the heart and can make you cry. I must … Continue reading

Breaking out the Baby books

Wow, we accumulated A LOT of baby books during our little girl’s infancy. There must have been hundreds of board books, cereal box freebies, and classic titles like Beatrix Potter and Winnie the Pooh packed away into the nursery room closet. Organizing these editions was one of the bigger, yet more pleasant, jobs that needed to be completed before baby number two’s birthday. Naturally, our three year old wanted in on the fun and during that shared experience I saw something amazingly cute and charming. Our little “big-girl”, upon seeing all these slightly-familiar-yet-new-again books, had an overwhelming desire to return … Continue reading

The Breaking Point – Karen Ball

Stop the Presses!! Author Karen Ball has agreed to do an interview with me exclusively for Families.com. Come back tomorrow to see her answers to the questions I asked and to learn more about her. In “The Breaking Point,” a Christian novel by Karen Ball, characters Gabe and Renee Roman are fighting to save their marriage, which is only ten years old. Although once madly in love, they are drifting farther and farther apart, sometimes hating each other, sometimes wishing that things could go back to how they were before. They’ve been to counseling, and think they’ve made some progress, … Continue reading

Summer Reading Series: Fancy Nancy and the Mermaid Ballet

What do Three Billy Goats Gruff and Fancy Nancy and the Mermaid Ballet have in common? Believe it or not; an important lesson in parenting. Allow me to explain. A few months ago, my daughter’s second grade class decided to put on a play. Yup. Three Billy Goats Gruff. Tryouts were held and my seven-year-old did her best to score the part she had her heart set on: Baby Goat. Fortunately, I had enough time to emotionally prepare her in case she didn’t get the coveted role. “That’s okay, Mommy,” she reasoned “if I don’t get to be the Baby … Continue reading

Realistic Splurges

I recently read an article about things that moms should splurge on. I eagerly read it, I’m always looking for ways to splurge without feeling guilty and breaking the bank. Unfortunately this list was for married moms or at least moms in a better financial position than most single moms. It was great advice but really didn’t apply to me. One of the suggestions was a really nice, all purpose purse. Since Hailey started school my purse is more function than fashion, after all, kids backpacks aren’t cheap and have to be replaced fairly often so there goes the money … Continue reading

Teething Pets

If you’re thinking of getting or currently own a puppy or kitten three-months-old or younger, then you’re soon in for a somewhat bizarre experience: teething. Puppies begin losing their baby teeth around four or five months old, and kittens also do so around the same time. Though sometimes later; my cat didn’t start teething until six months or so. I said bizarre experience because although it makes perfect sense that pets would lose their baby teeth and grow adult ones just like humans, I didn’t quite anticipate it when first adopting a puppy. I prepared for all the things I … Continue reading

Ten Things You Can Do For Your Pregnant Wife

1. Paint her toes. Just because she can’t reach them, or see them, doesn’t mean she doesn’t want them to look nice. Score bonus points by throwing in a foot rub. 2. Vacuum the floors. Vacuuming never seemed like a difficult chore before, but strap 20-30 pounds to the front of your chest and then try it. The occasional dip to pick up something too big for the vacuum cleaner is what really turns a simple task into backbreaking work. 3. Tell her she looks beautiful until she believes you. Praise every curve on her body. Pregnant women tend to … Continue reading

Two Tricks to Organizing Your Toddler’s Room

Do you remember the time when you first set up your child’s nursery? I bet the crib bedding was just right, the matching rug was centered, the cute toys waited on shelves, and the room emitted a sense of peace. Well fast forward a couple of years later, and you now find the room in complete chaos, with toys scattered all over the floor, a jumble of stuffed animals and books on the bed, and learning toys that force you to “learn” how to find all of the missing pieces. At least, that is how it went down in my … Continue reading

Everyday Matters – Danny Gregory

The title Everyday Matters is a play on words. The book is about things that most of us see on a daily basis, the views from our windows, the canisters on our kitchen counters, our children’s toys, the pictures on our mantels. But at the same time the title emphasizes that each and every day is of importance. Together both phrases emphasize that life matters, and that the little daily things we touch, and see and do all matter. Before he wrote this book the author, Danny Gregory, lived with his wife Patti, their baby son, and their dog in … Continue reading
