Craft Projects: Mother's Day Giftsby Sherry Holetzky | More from this Blogger 29 Apr 2006 05:21 AM Psssssst..... Mother's Day will be here soon, and these ideas are so simple to make that even the busiest Dad or teen can help little ones work on them. Youngsters will be thrilled to make something special for Mom on her big day, so print the instructions out and make sure you hide them from Mom. These are also cute for children to make for Grandma. Faux Stained Glass Candleholder All that's needed to make this project is a small glass jar (or a votive holder with a smooth surface), some colored tissue paper, glue, water, a paintbrush, and a new votive candle. Thin the glue out with some water and paint the glass container with it. Press small bits of different colored tissue paper onto the surface. It's okay to overlap. Add a little more glue mixture as needed. It's a good idea to brush a coat of glue mixture over the entire thing once finished. Little ones need supervision, but this project is simple enough for small children. They can rip the tissue paper instead of cutting if they are too small to use scissors. These candleholders turn out really cute and when you light the candle it shines through the colored paper mimicking stained glass. NOTE: Do not decorate the inside of the candleholder if you intend to light the candle. Mother's Bracelet In the same spirit as a mother's ring, make a mother's bracelet. Simply string faux jewels that match each child's birthstone onto a cord (you can find cord designed for this purpose in any craft store or the craft section of discount stores and super centers). Tie a knot on one end, string one jewel, tie a knot, and repeat, alternating birthstone colors until the bracelet is long enough. Tie a knot in the end. Leave enough cord at each end for Mom to tie her bracelet on. *You can also find bracelet clasps to secure the ends, but small children will need help attaching these.
