Cranium Calendarby Lauri Griffin | More from this Blogger 06 Jan 2008 10:54 AM I love to browse through the calendars on sale this time of year. I picked up one the other day that I know will add a lot of fun and thinking to our family's year. It's the Page-A-Day calendar from Cranium. We love the Cranium games and own many of them. The full color calendar is a mini-game for each day. On day one we were asked a "polygraph" which means a true or false question. "Humans and giraffes have the same number of vertebrae in their necks." Turns out that giraffes and humans both have seven neck vertebrae. My kids knew this, but I didn't. Other days have mixed up words to unscramble. "Blankouts" have you fill in the word to fit a clue. "Matchbatch" might mean matching famous streets with city nicknames. Other questions are about science, or history. "Zoomas" are very up close pictures of related objects like candy, or party favors. They are harder than they sound. On other days you are asked to draw clues, or even to draw with your eyes closed! On "Humdinger" days you hum or whistle the song on the calendar and see who can guess it. On the back side of the sheet is another song for someone else to do. We are not very good at these. We are better at "Tuneups" that let us show off our knowledge of popular music. The "Arcade" days are extra fun. The first one had us bowling with a roll of tape and highlighters. My favorites are the "Punch List" you are asked to name all the seven dwarves, or the twelve animals in the Chinese calendar. I'm very pleased with this little calendar. I think it will be a great reminder to have a bit of fun each day, and I love that these small games and activities will wake up our brains.
