Custom Thanksgiving Crafts

Are you off school this week for Thanksgiving? My kids don't get out until Wednesday, but I know some of you have the whole week off. Boy, are you lucky! You get to have lots of fun all week waiting for Turkey Day to get here.

In case you need something to do with all your extra time, I have some ideas that I think you might like.

Custom Tablecloth

If your mom has an old tablecloth or doesn't mind picking up on that doesn't cost a lot, you can decorate your very own custom tablecloth for Thanksgiving (*you can do this for other holidays). You can paint on it with fabric paints or even simple water based craft paints, and you can use a brush, stencils, and stamps to create a great look. Just make sure you put something underneath the cloth before you get started (I'm sure your mom or dad will make sure of that!).

You can also ask a grown up to help you sketch holiday shapes onto the cloth and cut them out. Then, just put a tablecloth in a contrasting color on the table first with the cut out one on top so the other color shows through. This looks really cool and it's not messy like painting.

Napkin Ring/Place Card all in one

We've already talked about napkin rings and place cards, but we haven't done them both all in one craft! To make all-in-ones, you'll need small paper plates (6" dessert plates), and empty cardboard rolls from paper towels. Have a grown up help you cut the rolls into pieces about 2" long. Glue them to the plates just above the center. Decorate these rings to look like a turkey's face. Add googly eyes or draw your own, draw a wattle or glue on some paper or other material to make one. Then, decorate the plate to look like the turkey's body. Paint it, color it, glue on tissue paper or feathers. Add each person's name to one. When dry, fold or roll up napkins and slip them through the ring.
