Are you looking for something different to do with pumpkins this year? Tired of the same old stuff? Try some of these cool ideas:

Pumpkin Planters for Outdoors and In

Here's a cool idea to dress up the outside of your home for Halloween or Harvest Day. Instead of making a typical jack-o-lantern, just cut the top off the pumpkin and clean out the inside. Don't cut out a face as you normally would. Instead, fill the pumpkin with soil and add a hearty plant that can withstand cool temperatures. You can also use artificial plants if desired.

You can also make great pumpkin planters for indoor arrangements. Clean the pumpkin as usual, place it on a plate or platter, and then place floral foam inside. Create a flower arrangement using fresh flowers. Be sure to keep the floral foam moist so your flowers will last longer.

Use Pumpkin Carving Patterns and Stencils

Forgot those simple triangle eyes and crooked teeth and do something spectacularly spooky or awesomely artistic with your pumpkins this year. You can find a variety of pumpkin carving patterns in stores and online. Adult help is required, since sharp tools are needed and cuts can be fairly intricate.

Make sure you set aside some time if you decide to go with a detailed stencil for pumpkin carving. It is fun to do and the end result is sure to impress friends, neighbors, and trick-or-treaters alike, but it will take a little more time than a typical jack-o-lantern does.
