Easy Classroom Valentines part 1by Laura Torres | More from this Blogger 03 Feb 2006 10:17 PM If your kids want to do something a little different than store-bought Valentine's cards for their friends or classmates this year, here are some simple ideas. Each is easy enough for kids to make, don't take too much time, and are inexpensive. Of course, the most popular Valentines come with a little something sweet, so all of these ideas start with a piece of candy. Conversation Heart Poufs
This one is a little girly, but hey, it's Valentine's Day and even the boys will appreciate the sweet treats inside. You will need: Tulle or netting Scissors Ribbon Conversation hearts 1. Cut a square of tulle or netting about six inches by six inches. 2. Put a small handful of conversation hearts in the middle of the square. 3. Cut a piece of ribbon about six inches long. 4. Gather up the tulle around the candy and tie in place with the ribbon. Thread a heart-shaped card with a message on it on the ribbon if you want. Tootsie Pop Flowers
These pretty posies are almost too pretty to eat! You will need: Tootsie pops Tissue paper Scissors Small hole punch or large needle Skinny green pipe cleaners 1. Cut a stack of tissue paper (at least 6 sheets) into a circle, about four inches in diameter. 2. Punch a small hole in the middle of the circles (if you don't have a small hole punch, poke a hole with a big needle.) 3. Poke the stick of the Tootsie Pop through the hole. Push the tissue paper up to the base of the sucker. Wrinkle and curl up the circles so they look like flower petals. 4. Wrap a pipe cleaner a few times around the sucker stick right underneath the petals to hold them in place. continue winding the pipe cleaner around the stick, stopping halfway to form a leaf. Twist the leaf once around so it stays put. Continue wrapping the the rest of the pipe cleaner around the stick.
