Easy Last-Minute Valentine Projectsby Michele Cheplic | More from this Blogger 11 Feb 2009 02:38 PM My superstitious friend was so focused on the fact that Friday the 13th is two days away that she completely forgot that Saturday is Valentine's Day. Fortunately, she is married to one of the most laid-back guys around, and I doubt that he would have raised an eyebrow had she overlooked the holiday. If you too suddenly realized that Love Day is just three days away, then you might consider making the following homemade Valentine's Day crafts. Not only are they inexpensive and simple to create, but they'll also be appreciated by just about any Valentine from grandparents and spouses to kids and BFFs. VALENTINE'S DAY PICTURE FRAME Materials: 4x6 wooden or cardboard picture frame (available at discount stores, craft stores and dollar stores) White craft glue White card stock, as thick as possible Wooden heart shapes, available at craft stores Red, pink, lavender and white craft paint Glitter glue, stickers or other embellishments Photo of your sweetheart Directions: Paint the wooden hearts with red, pink, lavender and white paint. Allow to dry overnight. Glue the hearts around the frame. Let dry for at least two hours. Place the photograph in the frame and decorate with glitter glue, sequins or stickers. MYSTERY VALENTINE'S DAY CARD Materials: Old magazines Construction paper (at least 9"x12") Glue stick Markers, crayons or colored pencils Scissors Directions: Look through magazines to find colorful words in interesting type styles. Begin by cutting out whole words. Then, cut out each letter separately, being careful to leave some of the background color attached. Keep the letters organized by filing similar letters in the same pile. After you've collected a variety of letters, think of a message you want to send your Valentine. Fold the construction paper in half. You can draw a picture on part of your card; stamp it with decorative stamps, or place the letters on both the outside and inside of the card. Write your message on a scrap of paper, and then look through your piles for the letters you'll need. Arrange the letters on the card and glue in place.
