Celebrate fall and the changing of the leaves by helping your children make a leaf placemat. They will give your room a colorful look and bring the season inside when these leaf placemats are sitting on your kitchen table.

There are three different ways that you can create leaf placements. So choose the idea that you like the best and have fun creating your own special fall placemat.

Cookie Cutter Leaves

You will need: Leaf cookie cutters Fall paint colors Large paper Plates Contact paper or laminate

Directions: Pour some paint into a plate or shallow dish. Dip a cookie cutter into the paint and then press onto the paper. Wash the cookie cutter before using a different color.

When the paint is dry protect the placemat between two layers of contact paper or laminate it.

Leaf Prints

You will need: Different shaped leaves Fall colored paint Large paper Plates Contact paper or laminate

Directions: Pour some paint into a plate or shallow dish. Hold onto the stem of a leaf and dip one side of the leaf into the paint. Then press the leaf onto the paper, paint side down. Use a different leaf for different colors.

When the paint is dry protect the placemat between two layers of contact paper or laminate it.

Pressed Leaves

You will need: Leaves Waxed paper Heavy book Contact paper

Directions: Gather some colorful fall leaves that aren't too crunchy. Put the leaves between two layers of waxed paper then place between the pages of a large book.

After the leaves are flattened (anywhere from a day to a week) take the leaves out of the book and the waxed paper.

Arrange your leaves on the table the way you want them to appear on your placemat.

Peel the backing off one of the sheets of contact paper. Then take the arranged leaves and place them the same way on the contact paper.

Take the backing off a second piece of contact paper and place it on the first piece so the sticky sides are together.

Trim the contact paper to the desired size.
