Family Activities: Building Fun Baskets for Teachers

Make a family project to honor your child's teacher or teachers. One of the best ways we can help to immerse ourselves in our child's school experience is to help teach our children an appreciation and respect for their teachers. Creating baskets for teachers is one of the ways we as parents and our children as students can demonstrate that appreciation for the teachers who spend hours every day helping our kids to learn.

Some of the fun basket ideas that you can put together include:

• School Supply Basket - Fill a gift basket with school supplies that the teacher can use either for herself or for her classroom. You can set it up to look pretty nifty with pens, pencils, markers, tape, glue sticks, dry erase markers, dry eraser, post-its, staples and even an apple shaped pen/pencil organizer. Most of these supplies are pretty inexpensive to buy at chain stores and you may even have extras that you laid in
• Movie Basket - Design the basket around the idea of giving the teacher an entertaining and relaxing evening at home, you can put in gift certificates for movie rentals, microwave popcorn, candy, sodas or water (try to get the teacher's preference) and a card instructing the teacher to enjoy an evening with her family on yours
• Morning Sunrise Basket - Pack it with coffee and other early morning items that would be great for at home or at school, especially for a quiet break - flavored coffees, fun coffee mug, biscotti, creamer, sugars and even little sticks of chocolate for adding to the coffee - hmmmm
• Late Day Relaxing Basket - This is a basket of items specifically for your teacher to take it easy and take time to themselves - include scented candles, lotions, a gift certificate for a manicure or pedicure or both - be sure to check out an information sheet so you can pick out some of the teacher's favorite things or scents

These are just a few ideas, you can also make book baskets, filled with books for children and the teacher alike along with fun bookmarks and more. You might do an arts basket with different colored markers, pattern shapes, stencils and other art supply gifts. Let your imagination and the teacher's desires and needs direct the types of basket to make and don't forget, you can always invite other parents to help out with the basket by providing items for it.
