Family Activity Opportunity: Sign Up for a Class at Michael'sby Heather Long | More from this Blogger 18 Sep 2006 12:14 PM When was the last time you went to Michael's: The Arts & Crafts Store? It's a regular stop for this family as I've detailed many times about doing crafts with my daughter. There's more to Michael's than just buying the supplies - they offer classes and demos in just about everything. These classes can be family activities to help all of you learn something new and they are definitely worth it for fun with your kids. Some of the classes available for you and your family include: Kid's Club Michael's has a Kid's Club program that this month includes activities in creating their own pumpkins and it only costs about $2 for thirty minutes of guided instruction and plenty supplies. Many of their kid's club classes take place on Saturday mornings so this can make it more convenient for working parents and for parents of kids in school. DEMO Classes The DEMOs are all free and they offer everything from how to put together foam houses to creatable pumpkin magic to Knitting projects in a snap. Most Michael's offer regular DEMO's on scrapbooking techniques and tools - so if you're interested in Scrapbooking, this is a great place to get ideas and lessons - especially if you're like me and having trouble visualizing new techniques and how to make it work. One Stroke Basic Techniques Classes Want to know how to do decorative painting? Michael's offers classes in this as well, whether you are painting a bookshelf, a cabinet door or other item - the one stroke basic class is a good start. Water Colors, Painting Classes, Basket Making and Centerpiece Decorations Have you ever wanted to make your own centerpiece? Have you ever tried to paint a picture? What about making your own wreath or decorative basket to either give as a gift or to hang on your wall? You can learn all of this and more during a Michael's class. Most of these classes are offered at a relatively low fee and many times - the supplies you need are included. My daughter and I are going to be taking a few of these classes over the next few months. It's a great way to spend time together and learn how to do something new. Somewhere, my mother is laughing at me for all the times I told her crafts bored me when I was a kid. Ah well, what classes would you like to take at Michael's?
