Obscure Movie Trivia

What if you were born with a name like Howitzer Mertelmeyer, and you wanted to make it big in Hollywood? A name like that would never draw a crowd at the box office, and certainly does not project the image you want. So you change your name to Rex Hamilton, and suddenly you’re a sensation. This happens all the time in Hollywood. Remember Norma Jean Baker? Hardly anyone does, but we all remember Marilyn Monroe. Celebrity name changes like this lead to interesting movie trivia. Try your mental prowess out on some of these. Match the name of the star … Continue reading

Family Fun and Education with Trivia

Trivia is fun but it can also be educational. Even if you don’t know some answers right away, you’ll learn them as you go. Every family member can add to his or her basic knowledge through trivia. Remember, not all questions necessarily have to be about “trivial” subjects even if they are not facts that are necessary to know in the course of a day. “Trivial Pursuit” is cited as the most popular game in the world. It was hot when it first came out and is still quite popular, as it continues to expand, but we can make up … Continue reading

Family Fun Week in Review: December 31 – January 6

We recently incorporated Kids’ Crafts into Family Fun, so I hope you haven’t missed anything. If you did, you can check here as well as other Week in Review posts to find out what’s been going on. We got back to work on New Year’s Day, and started the first day of January 2007 talking about Writing Letters and Family Games. On the second day of this brand new year, there was … Continue reading

Make New Games With Old Business Cards

I’m a big believer in letting kids invent and make up their own games. Not only does it foster creativity and encourage problem solving and thinking skills but it takes twice as long! They have to create the game before they play it. Instead of throwing away old business cards, let your kids play with them. Or buy a pack or two of index cards if you don’t have old business cards cluttering up a drawer. The kids can make their own trading cards by drawing or pasting magazine pictures on them. They can make their own card game. If … Continue reading

Birthday Party Anxiety

In my 24 years of parenting I have anecdotally confirmed that many parents suffer from Birthday Party Performance Anxiety. I include myself in the anecodotal research. The thought of throwing a birthday party fills me with fits of condemnation over my housekeeping, cooking and organizational skills. I hate housework, I love cooking when I don’t have to do it or clean up after myself, and I hate having to focus on 27 million screaming children who all want the first prize for a game of “Pin the wart on the witch”. Exaggerating I am, but you get the drift I’m … Continue reading
