Family Project: Address Plaque

You can use craft wood or even scrap wood for this project. You might even want to use aluminum or Plexiglas since it’s going to be outside. You should be able to pick up a small piece of either, or have a piece cut down to size, at a hardware store or sign shop in your area. Actually, a coated aluminum license plate blank works perfectly. If your state is one that requires license plates on both front and back of vehicles, they might not be as easy to find locally, but you can order them online. They are 6” … Continue reading

We got back to work on New Year’s Day, and started the first day of January 2007 talking about Writing Letters and Family Games. On the second day of this brand new year, there was … Continue reading

You May Have to Throw Out the Clock

Figuring out how to schedule our time can be an on-going reality for the average home business owner. While I am definitely an advocate of trying to come up with reasonable and somewhat predictable business hours, I also understand how sticking to a set schedule and doing business “by the clock” just may not work for a home business operation. I have written before about how I do think that time management is a key concern for the home business owner. After all, what is the point of working 13-hour days that net us $20 in income? Of course, in … Continue reading

Why I’m Thankful for my Camera

In the spirit of Thanksgiving I thought it would be appropriate to give thanks for an item that has helped bring so much joy to my life this year—my camera. I’ve dedicated entire blogs extolling the wonders of my favorite handheld high tech friend, but as dinner nears and I prime my photography equipment to capture my loved ones chowing down on turkey and pumpkin pie I am taking a moment to reflect on the wondrous gifts this single item has provided me. If it were not for my camera my parents would have no means to view their beloved … Continue reading

Determine the Best Route

Money dreams and goals are not always simple. Sometimes you have more than one. How do you decide what to do and when? Should you try to follow all your dreams, but plan them at different times or should you just pick a few realistic ones? A great process is to create a money dream notebook. For each page, title it with the dream. Then start to keep track of both your feelings and research. The details you include will be dependent on the dream, but they can help you to plan and also compare your money goals. This notebook … Continue reading

Organizing All Those Photos

It’s a dilemma all snap happy parents face at one time or another—how to organize the thousands of pictures accumulated from just a month’s worth of shooting. (When you’re a snap happy parent “thousands” is not an exaggeration.) The following are a few strategies I use to help manage my mountain of photos that grows by the day. PURGE—–Know when to hold them… know when to throw them. Not exactly classic Kenny Rogers, but you get the idea. Keep the frame-worthy shots and toss the rest. Don’t hang on to blurry, redundant, unflattering, or bad shots. This strategy is effective … Continue reading
