Help Kids to Save with a Fun Fund

As adults, we often think of saving as something necessary and the responsible thing to do. We save up for things such as a new furnace or braces for one of the kids. Once in a while we will also save for something fun, such as a family vacation, but we often go about it with our usual boring adult selves–we plan, we save, we move money to a vacation account. These techniques, the ones we have learned over the years and now practice, however, don’t usually work with kids. For them, saving has to be visual and fun. Help … Continue reading

More Hands-On Thanksgiving Fun

For most families, Thanksgiving activities are traditionally relegated to eating, watching football on TV, napping and talking. Not exactly a fun-filled day if you are a kid. If you are planning to host the Turkey Day spread this year, you might consider including activities to entertain your youngest guests. By doing so you will not only make the holiday a memorable occasion for children, but also, by keeping them busy you can spend more time making merry with adult guests rather than breaking up fights and listening to a chorus of whines. These low-budget kid-friendly crafts will keep your pint-sized … Continue reading

Football Playoff Party Fun

The NFL Playoffs continue this Sunday as the road to the Super Bowl heats up. Of course, no place is hotter right now than Green Bay, Wisconsin, where the Packers are looking to win back-to-back Super Bowls. I happen to live near legendary Lambeau Field–a.k.a. Party Central–and while I don’t have tickets to the big game versus the New York Giants, I will be partying it up along with the rest of the state’s residents. Only our pre-Super Bowl shindigs will be taking place in the comfort of our homes. If you are planning to host a NFL Playoff party … Continue reading

Labor of Fun

Labor Day is such a bittersweet holiday for me. Whereas I love the extra day of play, I hate that the weekend is the unofficial farewell to summer. Still, there’s no better way to bid the season goodbye than with an end of the summer bash for all your family and friends. Picnics: Whether you are entertaining a small group or a huge clan, picnics are a great outdoor activity. Grab your checkered tablecloth and plan a seasonal menu complete with fried chicken, watermelon, potato salad, grilled corn, and lemonade. Don’t forget to bring along some sports equipment to work … Continue reading

Friday Night Football Fun

In Wisconsin, preseason NFL action does nothing to diminish the over-the-top parties that take place at homes across the state. Last week Friday the Packers hosted the Arizona Cardinals at Lambeau Field. The game was nothing more than a glorified practice for both teams, yet that didn’t stop loyal Packer Backers from cramming into Lambeau’s parking lot with tailgating parties that rivaled those seen at the Super Bowl. Tonight the Packers travel to Indiana to face off against the Colts. Away games mean huge parties at my neighbor’s shrine to the Green and Gold. In just a few hours Mark … Continue reading

Are You Ready for Some Football Fun?

High school football is a big deal in the small county in which I reside. Okay, maybe not as huge as in Texas. Last time I checked we didn’t have NBC knocking at our door to shoot Friday Night Lights II, but the sport is popular nonetheless. The new football season kicks off this Friday with major match ups at various area high schools, and of course, where there’s a game going on, there’s a tailgate party to go with it. If you are looking for simple ideas for your next home or away game, then consider these winners: Decor: … Continue reading

The Road to Super Bowl Fun

It’s been 13 long years since the Green Bay Packers played in a Super Bowl and now that the drought is over, residents in Wisconsin are ready to party like college co-eds on graduation day. I’m sure it’s the same way in Pittsburgh, but since I live in Packer Nation I can only speak of the craziness that has engulfed my neck of the woods. People have been planning Super Bowl parties since the minute the Green and Gold won the NFC Championship game in Chicago against the Bears. Stores are decked out in Packer colors and are offering everything … Continue reading

Super Bowl Fun Facts

Pittsburgh who? Can you tell I live in Wisconsin? Super Bowl hype is all fun and games until one team gets blown out in front of an international audience of more than 100 million people. Who knows what will happen on the night of February 6th. All I know is that I happen to live a stone’s throw away from Green Bay and the entire state is going nuts right now. It’s been 13 long years since the Packers got invited to the play for the national championship and the fun has only just begun in the Dairy State. Regardless … Continue reading
