Fourth of July Fun

Fourth of July is a great time for family fun. Parades, picnics, barbeques, beach parties, and fireworks are great ways to celebrate. Try these projects to get ready for Independence Day.

Sunglasses Keeper

This project is fun, but it will also help keep your children's eyes protected from the sun, because it will help them keep track of their sunglasses. All you need is a pair of children's UV protective sunglasses, some string (white or any color), and red, white, and blue beads. Round beads work best for comfort. Make a tiny loop in one end of the string (large enough to slip over the arm of the glasses but small enough to avoid slipping off too easily). Begin stringing beads randomly or in any pattern you like. Make another loop at the other end, making sure to knot both ends tightly.

You can also use long shoestrings in bright colors and use different colored beads to make several sunglass keepers for different occasions, or just for everyday, and your kids will always be ready for fun in the sun. Just don't forget the sunscreen!

Spirited Candleholders

You will need at least four clay flower pots and four white candles for this project (votive candles work great). Choose any size pots you like. Use quick drying craft paints to paint two of the pots with red and white horizontal stripes and paint the other two blue with white stars. You can freehand the stars, use stencils, or use white star stickers once the blue paint is dry, but you may need to glue them on instead of relying on the sticker adhesive. Alternate the pots and line them up on a picnic table or deck rail for great Fourth of July decorations. When evening comes, light the candles for even more charm.
