Black Friday Moves to Labor Day

And next year it’s moving to April Fools’ Day. No joke. Well, maybe. But, very few parents are laughing. News that several major retailers are planning to move the start of the Christmas shopping season to Thanksgiving evening rather than wait until Friday morning is no laughing matter for millions of parents who are employed by the likes of Sears, Wal-Mart, Target, and Kmart. Those working moms and dads were the same ones who initiated a public outcry last year when their employers opened at midnight on Thanksgiving. You know, the holiday that is traditionally set aside for families to … Continue reading

Friday Night Football Fun

In Wisconsin, preseason NFL action does nothing to diminish the over-the-top parties that take place at homes across the state. Last week Friday the Packers hosted the Arizona Cardinals at Lambeau Field. The game was nothing more than a glorified practice for both teams, yet that didn’t stop loyal Packer Backers from cramming into Lambeau’s parking lot with tailgating parties that rivaled those seen at the Super Bowl. Tonight the Packers travel to Indiana to face off against the Colts. Away games mean huge parties at my neighbor’s shrine to the Green and Gold. In just a few hours Mark … Continue reading

Are You Ready for Some Football Fun?

High school football is a big deal in the small county in which I reside. Okay, maybe not as huge as in Texas. Last time I checked we didn’t have NBC knocking at our door to shoot Friday Night Lights II, but the sport is popular nonetheless. The new football season kicks off this Friday with major match ups at various area high schools, and of course, where there’s a game going on, there’s a tailgate party to go with it. If you are looking for simple ideas for your next home or away game, then consider these winners: Decor: … Continue reading

The Marriage Blog Week in Review for Jan 20-26

Good morning, if you noticed a curious lack of the marriage blog week in review, I have to plead guilty. I wrote most of it, but yesterday, my daughter had a birthday party and we went out together to attend. It was a roller skating party and for those of you who follow my fitness blog posts, you know that my daughter and I have been roller-skating a great deal frequently, well we enjoyed ourselves roller-skating, but I was whipped after an hour and half on the skates and my legs felt like spaghetti. I’ll talk more about that in … Continue reading

NFL’s Biggest Blunder?

Now that Osama Bin Laden is dead, who is the most hated man in America? Another terrorist leader? A presidential candidate? The guy that made that terrible film that is creating such tension? Not even close. The most hated man in America is actually two men – two National League Football refs. That’s right. I went to sleep last night and left my husband downstairs watching the Green Bay Packers and the Seattle Seahawks playing football. I am not really into football, but I couldn’t help but notice something odd had happened in last night’s game when I logged into … Continue reading

You Know It’s Going To Be A Bad Day When…

Your football team is losing on national television and that’s the least of your troubles. I don’t know… maybe it’s because I spent more than a decade in broadcast news and know how easily things can go wrong on live TV that I found this next incident so relatable. You might too… Did you see Sunday night’s game between the New Orleans Saints and Seattle Seahawks on NBC? If you did then you likely noticed the game was delayed for 10-minutes while NBC TV crews scrambled to retrieve a fallen camera from the turf. That’s right; a TV camera mounted … Continue reading

A View of “The View’s” New Season

Did greed get in the way of making the ladies a quintet? Will Elizabeth give birth on air? And will Whoopi really last the entire season? Those questions and more should be answered in the coming weeks as ABC’s daytime chatfest kicks off its 11th season on September 4th. Yesterday the network unveiled the official promo shot for “The View,” and new moderator Whoopi Goldberg doesn’t look as uncomfortable as I thought she might. I know she willing took the job, so why should she look repulsed in the shot that has a very pregnant Elizabeth Hasselbeck smashed up against … Continue reading

Will You Be Watching?

“Dancing with the Stars” fans rejoice—ABC is trying to capitalize on America’s dance fever by spinning-off the popular show. According to TV insiders, the network is developing another dance-themed show starring “Dancing with the Stars’” judges Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba. The new project is reportedly based on the BBC series, “Dance X,” where big wigs in the music industry choose singers and dancers for a new musical troupe. In the American version, instead of serving as judges, Tonioli and Inaba will reportedly act as coach-choreographers on the show. Word has it the outspoken pair will come up with … Continue reading
