From Crib to Bed - A Toddler's Fun Move to a Big Kid Bed! (Part Three)

Finally! We have stripped all the old paper off the walls and selected the new wallpaper patterns. We have scheduled the contractor and are really rolling now! President's Day was key, as it was a day my wife and I both had off from work (the financial markets were closed and so were we), yet our daughter's daycare was open. So we attacked the room with brute force, screwdrivers and spray bottles of cold water. That tired old paper didn't stand a chance!

We took home five big books from our local Sherman Williams on Sunday, determined to make a decision this week. We came to an agreement quickly and chose three patterns plus one border. Our girl was consulted early Monday morning but took the position of - "just pick something purple and green." That was all the artistic license we needed to move forward. So here is the deal: On three of the four walls she will see a fairly straightforward green on the bottom half, and on top a Parisian pattern with the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Arc de Triumph and some people with baguettes sipping coffee at a café. The border matches this French, Paris city pattern. On the remaining wall, we are using a floor to ceiling plaid pattern with the same border running across the middle. As she requested, it is all purple and green, as you can see below.

Tonight we showed her where her big kid bed will be and she immediately plopped down and pretended to sleep in that rectangular patch of carpet. I was then told to exit the room and wait for her to call me as if it were morning. She is very excited and I am as glad as ever that we are involving her in this entire process. I can tell that she really is starting to feel comfortable with the idea of her own big kid room. Our decision to allow her to be part of the fun is a big reason why this is going to be a smooth transition next month.

Now, off to find furniture we like and can afford!
