How to Have a Fun Baby Showerby Michele Cheplic | More from this Blogger 24 Apr 2009 11:38 AM Baby showers have a bad reputation for being cheesy and boring. Fortunately, with a little creativity you can turn your next pre-baby party into a festive gathering without breaking the bank. Here's how: CENTERPIECE Forget about the tacky tulle and plastic pacifier centerpiece, and opt for a more practical edible decoration using a variety of party foods. Get a tiered cake stand and make simple arrangements on each level. You can use decorated cupcakes or cookies, truffles in candy cups, jellybeans, sugar coated almonds, wrapped chocolates or bonbons. A healthier version could include fruit, such as grapes, clementines, peaches and cherries. Then, add a few nuts and crackers, and you will have a colorful and affordable baby shower table centerpiece. GAMES Baby Food Game The baby food game is a hit with moms and moms-to-be. All you need is about ten jars of baby food (with the labels removed), some spoons, and paper plates. As you remove each label, number the jar and make a note of the contents. Then, gather your guests, have them sample the contents of the jar and guess what's inside. Guests can open the jar and smell the contents or you can put the contents on paper plates and give them a spoon so they can actually taste the baby food. To make this game more challenging have each guest guess what is in each jar by just looking at the jar and not tasting the contents. Baby Shower Price is Right This is a knock off of the original CBS daytime game show. Simply gather about 15 baby-related items and make a list of their exact prices. Show the guests each item, and ask them to write down how much they think it costs. The guest who has the most correct answers wins the game. Examples of baby items include: Baby food Rattle Teething toy Diapers Bib Safety pins Baby hairbrush Baby wipes Baby lotion At the end of the game, place the items in a basket and present it to the guest of honor.
