25 Inexpensive but Fun Ways to Spend Together Time with Your Spouse.

Yesterday’s blog featured the importance of sharing common interests and spending time together as couple, talking and being involved in each other’s interests and lives. Sadly too many couples seem to live almost independent of each other these days and do not put enough emphasis and value on spending time together. No matter how busy life is, I can’t stress how important it is to maintain your relationship and make sure you keep a regular date night or time together without family. So here are 21 ideas, most of which won’t cost the earth: 1. Cook a meal and go … Continue reading

Fondue for Valentine’s Day

Who doesn’t love cooking dessert right at their table or fun of dipping stuff in chocolate? My kids think it’s just about the best thing in the world to not only get dessert but then to dip in chocolate to boot. Of course, you may well want to enjoy these treats without the kids! Here are a few recipes for dessert fondue for your Valentine’s Day dinner. While I’m quite partial to toasted angel food cake, you can really dip just about anything your heart desires: long stem strawberries, pound cake, cookies (short bread works particularly well). Chocolate Fondue (The … Continue reading

Fondue Kits

When is the last time you and your family had fondue for dinner? I know fondue was a big thing of the past, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t still enjoy fondue today. Fondue can make a very relaxing meal. Your family can sit around the dining table, cooking their own meats and veggies, then later dip luscious fruits into melted chocolate. Doesn’t that just make you want to get out your grocery shopping list and start writing down ingredients for making fondue? Well, don’t! You can buy already-assembled fondue kits. At least you can at Whole Foods Market. … Continue reading

Fondue Fun

Make dinner tonight a Fondue Feast for the whole family! Start with melted cheese served with apples slices, crispy bread cubes and celery and conclude with molten chocolate along side strawberries, brownie bits and cookies. In between, serve a traditional meal or go all the way with cook-your-own meats, poultry and veggies and cooking oils. What kid, big or small, doesn’t love to dip food into sauces, dressings or creams? Fondue presents an opportunity to dip EVERYTHING without the sideways glances or comments you might get otherwise. Personally, I do not care for the “upscale” fondue restaurants. The high prices … Continue reading

Fun Fondue II

Since I have my new fondue pot from my sister for Christmas, I thought I’d give it a real workout. In addition to the chocolate fondues from my previous post, I thought I’d try a main dish fondue. The kids thought fondue was a lot of fun, and I aim to please, but I couldn’t justify chocolate fondue as a staple food. My first thought was classic cheese fondue, but my sister, who is an excellent cook and knows everything about food (she hand-dips chocolates at Christmas!) said she’s never gotten a cheese fondue to work properly, so I didn’t … Continue reading

Simple Valentine Crafts for Preschoolers

I swear it was just last week that I was mailing out Christmas cards (okay, maybe it was two weeks ago). Now, Valentine’s Day is just 11 days away, which means there’s no sense in putting away my craft bin at this point. This, of course, is welcome news to my preschooler, who is always ready for new craft projects. The following Valentine art projects are ones we made last year when she was 3 years old. They are appropriate for ages 3-5, provided an adult is present. Older kids could make them on their own. Besides being easy to … Continue reading

Romantic Valentine’s Getaways

I realize that Valentine’s Day is still three weeks away, but if you are planning to treat your sweetheart to a romantic getaway then you need to book your trip as soon as possible. Hotel managers say the weekends prior to and following Valentine’s Day (this year the holiday falls on a Thursday) fill up quickly this time of year, especially at properties that offer special Valentine’s Day Romance packages. If you really want to impress your beloved on February 14th then consider heading to the ultra-luxe Residences at The Chateaux situated mid-mountain in Deer Valley Resort’s elite Silver Lake … Continue reading

Mystery Shopping: Paying to Shop

The first rule of mystery shopping is Don’t Pay to Shop. But is that rule ever bent? I’ll pass on the fondue restaurant that reimburses you only about half your evening. “But you’re getting a great deal!” No thanks, I’d rather go to Restaurant.com, pay for a coupon, and enjoy the meal without worrying about a report. Paying part of a hotel stay doesn’t make any sense to me either. Using Priceline.com and BiddingForTravel.com together to get the best price will often net you the same price a certain mystery company charges you to stay there. And, again, you can … Continue reading
