Fun Handprint Art Projects for Kids

How many of you still have the very first handprint art project your child ever made? My preschooler's handprint turkey is still attached to my bulletin board, despite the fact that she made it nearly two years ago.

The nice part of saving handprint art projects is that you can compare the new masterpieces with the old ones to see how much your child has grown. The following handprint art projects are ideal for preschoolers, although they could be tailored to toddlers and older children as well.

HANDPRINT WREATH

Materials:

Construction paper (yellow, orange, and red, or you could use white paper and paint or color the end product red, yellow or red)

Scissors

Glue

Directions:

Trace your child's handprint onto the construction paper. You will be making nine handprints (3 of each color--red, yellow, orange).

Cut out the handprints.

Glue the handprints in a circle to form a wreath.

You can embellish the wreath with other seasonal decorations such as leaves, straw or stickers. If you are making the wreath in the winter then switch up the colors (you could use white and blue or red and green) and attach paper snowflakes or mini marshmallows.

HANDPRINT PAPER PLATE DUCK

Materials:

Paper plate

Scissors

Glue

Stapler

Pencil

Yellow and orange construction paper

Crayons, paint or markers

Googly eyes

Directions:

Trace your child's hands on yellow construction paper, then cut out the prints. You will need two handprints per duck.

Fold one paper plate in half.

Paint the entire plate yellow and allow it to dry thoroughly.

Once the plate is dry glue the two handprints on the paper plate near the fold line. This will be the duck's tail feathers.

Cut out a 3-inch circle from the yellow construction paper. This will be the duck's head.

Cut out an oval shape from the orange construction paper. This will be the duck's bill. Fold over a small piece of the bill. This is where you will apply the glue.

Glue the bill onto the circle.

Glue small googly eyes onto the circle (the duck's head). If you don't have googly eyes just draw eyes with a marker or crayon.

Staple the head to the paper plate--near the fold line, opposite the tail feathers.

Using orange construction paper cut out the duck's feet (draw an oval with a zigzag top for feet). Then connect the feet with a short strip of orange construction paper.

Staple each foot to the bottom of one side of the paper plate, right inside the fold line of the foot.

Your duck is now complete and should be able to stand up.
