Having Fun While Helping Others

Wouldn't it be cool to help other people while having fun too? There are lots of things you can do to help others, get some exercise, and have fun, all at the same time.

One idea is raking leaves for an elderly or disabled neighbor. Okay, that may not seem like a great way to spend a Saturday, and it probably doesn't sound like a lot of fun, but wait. If you take a friend or a sibling along and make it into a contest, it can be fun. You can work on one side of the yard while your friend or sibling does the other side, and you can race. You'll get done quickly, you'll get a work out, and you'll feel good knowing you helped someone out. You'll have a few laughs in the process.

You can do things like this with a variety of projects, and you can make chores that you need to do at your own home into contests too. Ask your mom or dad to pick up some of those cool leak bags that look like jack-o-lanterns or some with other fun images and race to see who can rake their half of the yard and stuff their bag the fastest. You might also want to bring a fun bag with you to the neighbor's house.

There are a lot of people who could use a little extra help. You might offer to wash a neighbor's car too. Do this while the weather is still nice and you and a friend can have fun squirting each other with the hose, while doing a favor for your neighbor at the same time.

Your neighbors will really appreciate the help. Next time you're really bored, consider giving this idea a try. You'll feel good about doing it and feel good about yourself. I promise.
