Homemade Decorations for Your Thanksgiving Tableby Michele Cheplic | More from this Blogger 24 Nov 2008 11:40 PM Your Thanksgiving menu is set, but how's your dining room table looking? With such an elaborate meal to present, you really should have table decorations that complement the stunning spread. If you are looking for simple and affordable ways to add rustic touches to your holiday dinner table, consider the following crafts. Not only will they help enhance your culinary masterpieces, but also you can give them away to your Thanksgiving guests as parting gifts once the celebration is over. Note: Both of these projects are kid-friendly. If you have children ask them to lend a hand. They will have a great time and the task will get done in half the time. MINI PUMPKIN CANDLE HOLDERS Materials: Miniature pumpkins Carving knife Small spoon Votive candles Ribbon Directions: Cut a hole into the top of the pumpkin making certain it is no larger than the size of a quarter. Remove the guts with the spoon. Place the candle into the hole. Use the ribbon and tie a bow around the widest part of the pumpkin. Light the candles and place pumpkin candleholders at each place setting or in various spots throughout your home that could use added warmth. PINE CONE PLACE CARD HOLDER Materials: Medium or large pine cones Brown cardboard (or you can paint it with other festive colors to add more color) Place card Twigs, acorns or other small natural treasures Craft glue or hot glue Directions: Take place card and insert it into the pine cone so that it sticks straight up and your guest's name is clearly visible. Set pine cone on cardboard base, then arrange your other natural items around it as desired. Attach the items to the cardboard with glue and allow to dry. Place each masterpiece around the Thanksgiving table prior to dinner and don't forget to remind your guests to take his or her place card holder home once the meal is over.
