Homemade Easter Baskets and Bunnies

I usually stock up on Easter baskets the day after Easter. You can find amazing deals on Easter everything in the days following the holiday. Last year I scored six good-sized Easter baskets, in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors, for less than five bucks at Target's after Easter sale.

If you didn't get a chance to stock up on cheap Easter baskets last year, you can still save money this season by making your own at home. The following Easter basket craft is kid-friendly, as is the project for homemade Easter bunnies. Take a look:

EASY EASTER BASKET

Materials:

Cardboard milk carton (washed and dried)

Paint

Poster board

Construction paper

Stapler

Potting soil

Grass seed

Plastic wrap

Directions:

Cut and decorate a half-gallon milk carton with construction paper or acrylic paint.

Make a handle with poster board and a stapler.

Fill the milk carton with potting soil and sprinkle on an ample amount of grass seed.

Water the seeds (do NOT soak the seeds) and then cover the carton with plastic wrap.

Let the basket sit in the sun for a few days. The grass should start sprouting in two to three days.

When the grass gets to a decent height, remove the plastic wrap and fill the basket with Easter eggs or other holiday goodies.

HOMEMADE EASTER BUNNY

Materials:

Small clay pot

Tightly closed Brussels sprout

Mini pom poms in pink or white

2 four-inch pieces of floral wire

Googly eyes

Plastic Easter grass

Glue

12 inches of ribbon that is about 1-inch wide

Small silk flowers

Directions:

To make the Bunny's ears place the center of the floral wire between your index finger and thumb. Pull the ends of the wire together and twist 2 or 3 times. The end result should resemble a loop. This is the frame for the bunny's ears.

Place the ribbon wrong side up.

Wrap the ribbon around the wire and glue it in place. After the glue dries thoroughly, trim off the extra ribbon. Make sure you don't cut too much and expose the wire.

Next, insert the wire ears into the Brussels sprout.

Glue on the googly eyes and a mini pom pom for the nose.

Glue plastic Easter grass into the clay pot.

Glue the bunny into the grass.

Finish the project by adding mini silk flowers around the bunny to make it appear as though he is standing in a field of flowers.
