Ideas for a Rockin' Dinosaur Party for Kidsby Michele Cheplic | More from this Blogger 06 Jul 2009 08:16 AM What do you do when your 4-year-old daughter begs you for a dinosaur-themed birthday party? If you're me you consult with friends who have little boys and come up with a variety of dinosaur-related games, activities and decorations, so that your little princess can feel like a Triceratops for a day: PREHISTORIC IMPRINTS Materials: Play-Doh or homemade dough Items to imprint, including bugs, leaves, dinosaur footprints (from toy dinosaur) Shoe polish Acrylic sealer Directions: Make a rock shape from the Play-Doh. Create a smooth surface on the topside of your rock. (You can use water or the bottom of a plate to create a flat surface.) Make imprints with different objects. Next, rub on a bit shoe polish and acrylic sealer to make it last longer. Bury imprints in the sand and let your junior paleontologists go on a dinosaur dig. The excavation site can be as simple as filling a baby pool with sand. In addition to adding the imprints to the site, you can also bury dog bones, eggs and plastic fossils. You could also hide mini plastic dinosaurs in balls of Play-Doh. Give each child a paper or plastic bag, a toy shovel or a paintbrush, and let him/her collect as many items as possible. Other party ideas: Dinosaur or egg shaped piñata Volcanoes made of Play-Doh as table decorations Dinosaur shape birthday cake Big dinosaur puzzle for the entire group to work on together 3D foam dinosaur activity (you can purchase these at Michaels for $1) Dinosaur Bingo Dinosaur goodie bags filled with: Dinosaur pencils, stickers, Dino-grabbers, dinosaur tattoos, dinosaur coloring books, and Gummy dinos. Dinosaur egg decorating: Give each guest a hard boiled egg to decorate with glitter glue, feathers and dinosaur stamps. Dinosaur dance Dinosaur hot potato: Place kids in a circle and have them pass around a large dinosaur egg while music plays. When the music stops, the kid holding the dinosaur is out. To avoid tears, send ousted players to another adult who places a dinosaur tattoo on their hand.
