Get Your Giggle On

Scrapbooking can be fun. I know; what a concept, right? Often, scrappers get so caught up in creating elaborate page designs filled with expensive embellishments and newfangled techniques that they lose sight of the big picture. The art of crafting memory albums shouldn’t be a chore or an exercise in frustration; rather, piecing together pages featuring fabulous photos and heartfelt mementos should be fun. One of the ways you can infuse a little laughter into your scrapbook layouts is to look for humorous additions, such as jokes or riddles. For example, if you are creating a lively kids-themed page design, … Continue reading

Knock Knock Jokes to Share with Your Kids

I wrote a blog a few days ago on jokes to make your kids giggle (read it here), but apparently, according to my kids, I left out a major funny factor: knock knock jokes. Why are knock knock jokes so funny to kids? Part of it is because they are in a familiar format that the child can participate in, but they know there will be a twist ending. Just the interaction with you, and the anticipation is enough to start them smiling. The word play is just the frosting on the silly cake. So, here they are: An unscientific … Continue reading

Dachshund to the Rescue (Right in my Backyard!)

I heard it on the radio this morning: a heroic little dachshund named Annie brought help to her elderly owner. And it happened just a few miles from the Portland, Oregon suburb where I live. It was around one o’clock in the morning this past Tuesday. Residents in the Lake Grove neighborhood of Lake Oswego, Oregon called police to complain about a barking dog. The head of the Lake Oswego police canine unit responded to the calls, expecting to find a huge, menacing dog on the loose. Instead, Sergeant John Brent found a nine and a half pound dachshund. The … Continue reading

Bullies in the Headlights – Matthew Buckley

“Bullies in the Headlights” is the sequel to Matthew Buckley’s first LDS comedy novel, “Chickens in the Headlights.” “Bullies” doesn’t have much to do with chickens, although they are mentioned briefly at the beginning of the book. Rather, this time around we’re following the Buckley boys as they team up against the Hagbarts, a family of noisy, obnoxious, mean kids who reminded me somewhat of the Herdsmans from “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.” Matthew is, of course, the main character. He wakes up with dread on his first day of school, recalling how, at the end of the school year, … Continue reading

The “Joke” Stage

The other day, I heard two young children talking on the bus—they were taking turns telling each other jokes that they appeared to be making up on the spot. While I didn’t exactly understand the humor behind each joke they told, they certainly were tickled with themselves and each other and it reminded me of when my own children were going through the “joke” stage. It was all about trying to make up and tell silly and amusing jokes. Story-telling and jokes become great fun for children around the time they enter elementary school. 5-8 year-olds are prime members of … Continue reading

Toddler Stand Up Comedy

In the words of Uncle Albert in Mary Poppins, “I love to laugh, loud and long and clear!” On most days, I think we have a blast in my house. We love to laugh, and laugh often. However, other than one basic knock-knock joke we tried to teach our girl last year, we have never approached structured comedy with her. That old one involved a banana and an orange as the punch line. Recently, we tipped our family toe a bit further into the comedic waters. We just got our hands on a clever new book called Mama’s little book … Continue reading

Fun Riddles

“Laughter is the best medicine,” is actually a true statement. Laughing releases chemicals in the brain, which in turn make a person feel better. In previous blogs Laura Torres talked about the value of jokes and knock-knock jokes and shared some of her favorites. But I prefer riddles. They require the listener to really think about the question before answering. Typically the obvious answer is incorrect. The one telling the riddle is usually the one to get the best laugh. Q. A plane crashes on the border of the United States and Canada. Where do they bury the survivors? A. … Continue reading

Scrapbook Funnies: Addicted to Scrapbooking

As a slightly obsessed scrapbooker, I have collected funny scrapbooking stories, jokes and anecdotes to share with my classes when I teach. I find myself going back and reading them more and more, and getting a chuckle out of them each time. As an active member on several scrapbooking community message boards, I have collected a very large list of reason’s why people are addicted to scrapbooking. I thought I’d end today and this week with a list to make you giggle. I will be posting more each week on Friday to end the week with a laugh. Afterall, laughter … Continue reading
