Labor Day Weekend - Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall

Labor Day weekend is almost here. We are looking forward to the annual hot air balloon festival and four day weekend. Four days off from school will be a nice break and a chance to catch up just a little on chores and homework.

Many people consider Labor Day to be the end of the summer. It's a good weekend to throw an end of summer party. Even though summer is ending, there's still time for a couple of afternoons at the lake, a few more picnics, a few more hikes before the snow hits. We've had such a hot summer that it's hard to believe we could see snow in a month.

It's also a good weekend to look back at the summer. What did you mean to do that you never got around to? Make a note for next year's calendar for those things. We never got around to going to the Water Park, or Six Flags. And we didn't have near enough picnics.

Labor Day weekend is also a great time to plan for the next few months. Go ahead and write them on the family calendar. Consider a ride or hike for leaf watching. You might be lucky enough to live in the migratory pattern of birds or butterflies. Check with your state parks to see if they hold festivals. Here in Colorado we can take a short drive to parks that celebrate the migratory path of Monarch butterflies, herons, and hummingbirds.

We also have a plan to visit a pick-your-own apple farm. I hope to take some fall leaf hikes. Many years we head to Estes Park to watch the elk, but I don't think our financial or time budgets are going to allow that this year.

Labor Day weekend, it's a great time to pause and say goodbye to summer and plan for the busyness of the coming fall and winter.
