Make a School Days Keepsake Bookby Sherry Holetzky | More from this Blogger 05 Apr 2006 07:14 AM Whether your children receive awards and ribbons, or just want to keep track of report cards, class photos, and special notes, this keepsake book will be the perfect way to store these items for future trips down Memory Lane. A keepsake book will also insure that school memorabilia is kept together so important items don't become misplaced. It's also fun to make and a good way to keep kids busy during Spring Break, over the weekend, or any time they are home from school. Items Needed:
The cardboard or cardstock will be the "pages" of your book. Cover each page with fabric or paint each one as desired and decorate with stickers, glitter, or dye-cut scrapbooking decorations. Punch holes down one side of each page. Glue lace or trim around the edge of each page then stack the pages together with the holes lined up, and thread one piece of string or ribbon through one set of holes. Tie into a bow, and move on to the next hole. This works better than trying to thread the ribbon between the holes down the length of the paper; it helps the pages turn easier.
Use the clear plastic report folders to make clear pockets on some pages for award ribbons and class photos, so they will be protected. You can also make clear pockets or fabric pockets for report cards or special notes. A cute idea for the front of the keepsake book is to make a little picture frame from a piece of the clear plastic and some fabric or ribbon. Insert a picture of your child, and adhere the frame to the front cover. Decorate the cover with your child's name, and write which grades are covered in this album. You may want to make more than one keepsake book, depending on how much memorabilia your child has for each grade.
