Make Miniatures and Accessories

If your child has a dollhouse, plays with Barbie, or likes action figures, you can make miniatures and accessories for them. Let your imagination go wild!

Here are some examples for inspiration:

Bedding

Washcloths, placemats, and scraps of felt or other fabric make perfect towels, blankets, and little throws and accent rugs for Barbie and action figures, or as decor elements for the dollhouse. Cut them to size, hem with fabric glue, and add trim as desired. You can also use craft glue or fabric glue to make tiny pillows. Place two pieces of fabric together, glue three sides, and allow to dry. Stuff the pillow and glue the remaining seam closed. Simple and cute. Dolls and action figures need their sleep too!

Furniture and Accessories

A Velveeta box or even a small shoebox makes a great bed for fashion dolls. Paint it or cover it with felt and add bedding. Boxes from checkbook refills make good loveseats and sofas. Cover with fabric, make pillows for the back and for armrests, and glue them in place with fabric glue. The cap from a cooking spray can makes a good laundry basket, or if you turn it upside down it can be used as a stool or a round end table. A plastic case from a cassette tape makes a cute coffee table if you glue beads to the bottom for legs. Cover some of these items with wood grain contact paper or fabric for extra drama.

Dishes and Food

Soda bottle caps and other small caps make great dishes and food. A soda bottle cap makes a cute fruit bowl with tiny pieces of fruit crafted from clay and painted the appropriate colors. Glue into the bowl when finished. A larger, more shallow lid or cap makes a perfect serving tray when stacked with bottle cap bowls. Plastic caps from non-aerosol spray bottles like hairspray make great vases or large drinking glasses. Wash them out, paint them or add stickers.

*Keep tiny pieces away from small children.
