Make Your Own Fluffy Easter Pals

I have a weakness for marshmallow Peeps (the original chick-shaped ones are my favorite), but as adorable as they are, they don't make the best Easter decorations. I know, because I thought I could string them together to make a cute addition to my Easter buffet table last year and... well, let's just say they didn't maintain their shape as well as I had hoped. Perhaps, that's why they are sold in the candy aisle and not the craft aisle.

Regardless of my Easter flop, I still maintain that chicks are essential when decorating for the spring holiday. Now that I am a year wiser, I've decided to go another (less sugary) route in an effort to brighten my home for Easter. The following chick-inspired craft project features easy to work with and oh so affordable pompoms. I suggest purchasing the larger bags and making an entire family of chicks, placing them in baskets, and displaying them throughout your home.

HATCHING POMPOM CHICK

Materials:

4 Yellow Pompoms (one 2-inch pompom for body, one 1 1/2-inch pompom for head, and two 1/2-inch pompoms for wings)

Orange felt

Small googly eyes, tiny black beads or buttons for eyes

Craft Glue

Scrap of ribbon

Plastic Easter egg with hinged opening

Directions:

Glue together the face and body pompoms.

To make the wings, trim away most of the fluff on the pompom to form a triangle shape.

Glue the wings to the body with the pointed end of the triangle shape pointing out and away from the body.

Cut two triangle pieces from felt and glue in place for the chick's mouth.

Glue eyes in place (choose between the googlies, the buttons or the black beads).

Tie a little bow around the chick's neck and place inside a plastic egg. Leave egg open and place in an Easter basket.
