Making Cute Candy Snowmen

According to meteorologists, next week much of the nation will be battered with some of the most brutal winter weather of the season. For some parents that means preparing for a potential snow day. Hence this blog.

With the kids home from class you'll likely be searching for ways to ward off cabin fever. This next cute craft idea is ideal for keeping kids busy when they are stuck indoors all day.

These Candy Snowmen are not only incredibly adorable (almost too cute to eat), but they are also simple to prepare, affordable (most of the materials are easily found around the house) and delicious. They also make wonderful edible gifts that can be shared at school with teachers and friends once class is back in session.

CANDY SNOWMAN

Materials:

Wooden skewers

White marshmallows (regular sized, not mini)

Gum Drops

Edible paper (Tip: You can find this at most craft or cake-decorating shops)

Food coloring

Licorice

Fruit Roll-Ups

Small colored candies (M&Ms, Skittles, Nerds, mini lemon drops, etc.)

Toothpicks

Directions:

Cut a small circle in the edible paper.

Cut a tiny triangle from orange edible paper to make the carrot nose.

Insert a wooden skewer through 3 marshmallows, then keep pushing it so goes through the circle cut from edible paper, then through a gum drop.

Use a toothpick dipped in food coloring to paint a face (eyes, mouth, etc.) on your snowman.

Pierce holes in the marshmallows with a toothpick and push small candies in for the buttons and small pieces of licorice for the arms.

Carefully push tiny orange triangle made from edible paper into a hole made with a toothpick for snowman's nose.

Cut snowman scarf from a Fruit Roll-Up. Snip the ends to make tassels, and tie it around his neck.

Note: Your snowmen need to be eaten right away unless you plan to give them away as gifts. If you decide to do the latter, then store each snowman in an airtight container or sealed plastic bag so they don't dry out.
