Making the Most of Your Holiday Trip the Waterpark

In a previous blog I suggested gifting your favorite family with passes to an indoor waterpark. These days practically every city in the nation is home to a resort that features an indoor waterpark. They are extremely popular with families since they can be accessed without getting on a plane, plus you don't have to blow thousands of dollars to visit one.

Since most resorts include the price of admission to waterparks in the room rate you can save right out of the gate. However, to really get your money's worth it's a good idea to make sure your kids measure up before booking a room or buying a day pass. Most waterparks have strict height requirements for various waterslides and other attractions. If your kids are too short to participate in the park's best features (and they are not content in the toddler area), then consider postponing your visit until they grow a few inches.

Another way to save at an indoor waterpark is to visit midweek. You can snag cheaper rates if you visit from Sunday to Thursday. Also, keep in mind that while you might not be able to check in until 3 or 4 p.m., most resorts will let you pre-register and use the waterpark from noon on. Likewise, most hotels will also allow you to use the waterpark all day on your departure date.

If you are on a tight budget then steer your kids away from the in-house arcade. It's easy to drop $20 in less than 20 minutes. If your children are insistent about making one visit, then give them a set amount of tokens and when they're gone--game over.

To save some green on food utilize the appliances included in your hotel room. Most basic suites come equipped with a mini fridge and a microwave. Pack a cooler and plan to use the appliances to cook your own meals. Fixing even one meal and a couple of snacks will reduce your food bill significantly.
