Monkeying Around

How do you keep your kids from singing the summer blues? My daughter is suffering from too-much-pool-itis. Consequently, her singing has gotten louder in the last few days. I feel for her. It’s too hot to simply play outside in the yard. You really have to be immersed in water if you are going to be exposed to the sun for a prolonged period of time. Still, I don’t want her sitting in an air conditioned house staring at a TV all day, just because she wants to take a break from the pool. Fortunately, my kid is a whiz … Continue reading

Monkeying Around

My daughter spent her 6th birthday surrounded by family, friends and dozens of monkeys. We splurged on a Safari-themed birthday party at the local children’s museum and invited her entire kindergarten class. What a day! The museum provided some of the decorations, but none of the party favors. That job was left to me, my mom and my BFF. The following are just some of the monkey-theme items we made to create a fun atmosphere for the kids: MONKEY CUPS Materials: Brown plastic or paper cups (If you are on a budget you could use paper lunch bags) Brown construction … Continue reading

Short and Sweet

When it comes to scrapbook layout titles, I like ‘em short and sweet. I don’t care for long, languishing titles that sprawl across two pages, snake around corners and trail down the sides of page designs. But that’s just me. I get a certain satisfaction from coming up with cute quips that double as bold titles. What’s more, when you have a short title you have more flexibility in your layout. For starters, you don’t have to worry about squeezing all of the words on a single page. Moreover, you save money by not having to use as many embellishments … Continue reading

Fun Birthday Scrapbook Layouts

This year my daughter celebrated her birthday with 26 of her closest friends. It’s a shindig I won’t soon forget, and believe me; it won’t be duplicated for at least another 10 years. In addition, to opening 26 different birthday presents, my little girl tore open nearly three-dozen birthday cards, many of which were handmade by her young friends. Given that I don’t plan to host a bash for those many kids anytime soon, I kept each and every one of the birthday cards. I wasn’t sure what I was planning to do with them, but after seeing a scrapbook … Continue reading

Planning a Theme Party

I am a survivor. I hosted a party for 25, five year olds, and lived to write about it. Now that the party is over, I can honestly say that the anticipation I felt in the days leading up to my daughter’s sixth birthday bash was much worse than the shindig itself. The key to my survival: Family, friends… and a solid theme. My daughter chose a jungle safari theme with a heavy emphasis on wild animals for her birthday party. Once we settled on a theme, the invitations, decorations and party favors fell into place. Here are some of … Continue reading

Wednesday Widgets: Banana Warehouse

For today’s Wednesday Widgets, we are going to be a little playful. Game widgets are popping up faster than you can say Suduko. One cute little game is called Banana Warehouse. In this game, you are a forklift driver, and you need to sort crates of bananas into their proper bins. Crates of green bananas go on the left and crates of yellow bananas go on the right. You control your forklift using the arrow keys on the computer. You also have a limited amount of time to do your sorting. The concept is super easy to learn, although the … Continue reading
