More Cool Places to Visit Santaby Michele Cheplic | More from this Blogger 04 Dec 2008 10:41 AM I took my preschooler to see Santa at the mall yesterday. It went about as well as our visit with the Easter Bunny. Needless to say our family Christmas card will not be featuring a smiling tot perched on Santa's lap... again. It makes me wonder if I would have more success if we switched venues and caught up with the rotund red-suited gift giver at one of the following locales: NEW HAMPSHIRE Santa's Village in Jefferson, New Hampshire is a must-visit destination if you are in New England during the holiday season. The outdoor theme park is a virtual winter wonderland complete with Santa, real reindeer and Christmas lights galore. Your kids will have a blast riding the monorail, Skyway Sleigh and the Christmas Carousel, which features reindeer rather than horses. Thrill seekers can even take in views of the White Mountains from the top of the Ferris wheel. Visitors who enjoy more low-key activities can decorate cookies at the Gingerbread Bakery or munch on other homemade treats. PENNSYLVANIA If you are looking to experience an old fashioned Christmas, then head to West Chester, Pennsylvania. The festivities there kick off on December 5th when Santa comes to town as the anchor of the holiday parade. The jolly ol' guy then lights the Community Tree in front of the courthouse. The next day families are invited to join St. Nick for breakfast at the Chester County Historical Society. While there don't miss the dollhouse exhibit and displays featuring century old Christmas decorations. TENNESSEE At the Gaylord Opryland Resort in Nashville, Tennessee you will get the chance to see not one, but 40 Santas shimming and shaking their robust behinds in time to Christmas classics. The dancing Santas are part of the resort's "A Country Christmas" celebration, which also includes "ICE!" a giant, indoor winter wonderland featuring 2 million pounds of sculptured ice. In addition to the frozen water, visitors will be treated to a presentation of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" along with dozens of other shows and attractions.
