More Crafts to Decorate Your Child's Room

by Sherry Holetzky | More from this Blogger

Kids have their own taste and their own ideas. What better way to express their creativity than to use it to help decorate their bedrooms or playrooms? Ask your child about projects he or she would like to do, or try some of these:

Artwork

Your child can draw or paint pictures in colors that coordinate with his or her room décor. Then, simply have your child paint a plain wood frame to match. Another alternative is to make one or more of the picture frame projects in this section and use those to frame artwork or favorite photos. Make an entire gallery of your child's own artwork for a nice, personal touch.

Lampshade Decorating

Lampshades are pretty simple to decorate, and doing so will give your lighting elements new life. For a simple update, have your child glue trim around the bottom edges, or glue thin rope or cording directly onto the shade in interesting designs. Draw the design with glue and then attach the cording. Add a few flat back beads or flat buttons to give it some detail.

Decoupage is also a great option for giving lampshades an update. It's a little messy, so protect your work surface, but it is a lot of fun. The finished project with have a nice texture and your child will be proud to show off his or her work.

Crocheted Pillow Cover

Going back to the Crochet Crafts article, your child can learn a basic crochet stitch. Using a single stitch, your child can make a cute, textured pillow cover. To keep it simpler, have your child make a square large enough to cover the front of the pillow and attach it to a fabric backing.
