More Homemade Easter Basket Ideasby Sherry Holetzky | More from this Blogger 05 Apr 2006 05:05 AM Whether you want to make homemade Easter baskets just for fun or to achieve a more personalized look, you and your kids will benefit from working on these projects together. Paper Bag Nesting Basket This is super simple and inexpensive to make. Simply fold over the edge of a paper bag about 2-3" and continue folding it over again and again until the bag is only about 6" tall. You can use a paper grocery sack, or the next size down, but the paper lunch bags are a little small for an Easter basket (they do however make cute party favors). Next, trace the bottom of the bag onto a piece of poster board or cardboard, and cut it out, staying just inside the tracing lines. Insert this piece into the bag to give your basket a firmer base. You can also cut a strip from another paper bag to use as a handle. Cut the strip about 3" wide and the length of the bag. Fold it lengthwise in thirds to make it sturdier, and staple each end to the inside of the basket. Decorate as desired. Fabric Placemat Easter Basket Find a great Easter themed fabric placemat or a pretty, pastel one. Use a rectangular placemat, not oval. If it isn't double-sided, add another layer of fabric or a coordinating hand towel to it by sewing in place or using Liquid Stitch. This step is to make it sturdier. Pull the corners up on one side and attach them to each other with a few stitches or a stapler. Continue until all corners are attached. Add a bow, ribbon rose, or a fancy button to each corner (if you use staples, cover them with these embellishments). Use wired ribbon for the handle. *These projects can also be used as Easter decorations. Just fill them with Easter grass and decorative eggs, candies, or silk flowers.
