Nachos that Kids Can Makeby Sherry Holetzky | More from this Blogger 29 Dec 2006 12:13 PM Are you ready for the easiest nachos ever? They are incredibly simple to make, so simple that even small children can make them with just a little supervision (if they're big enough to eat nachos). They'll feel like they are "cooking" like big boys and girls and will enjoy their snacks even more! While this is a good option for little ones to experience the joys of preparing their own food, this is also a good option for older kids arriving home hungry after school, if you prefer that they don't use the stove. This recipe is quick, simple, and tasty! What you will need:
What you will need to do: Have children wash their hands and then arrange tortilla chips on the microwave safe plate so that the chips are touching but not overlapping too much. Next, sprinkle the chips with shredded cheese, trying to cover them as evenly as possible. Nuke the plate of chips in the microwave for just a few seconds until the cheese melts (time varies according to microwave). Parents should supervise this part, although children will enjoy pushing the buttons and "cooking" with the microwave. Serve with sour cream, salsa, or your favorite toppings and garnishes. Variations: You can use other types of cheese if you prefer. Colby Jack is another good choice. For heartier appetites, you can always add some leftover taco meat, cooked and drained ground beef, or other toppings before warming in the microwave. Big kids can also make a simple cheese sauce to spoon over nacho chips. Just spray a microwave safe bowl with cooking spray, break up a couple slices of American cheese or a few chunks of Velveeta, and add a couple of tablespoons of milk. Nuke for about 20-30 seconds, and stir thoroughly. Repeat these steps until cheese sauce is smooth then carefully spoon over chips. *You can also add salsa instead of milk for more flavor. *Check out the Food section of this blog for more ideas!
