Fun for Grown-Ups at Disney: Epcot

Given that Disney World is a family friendly park there aren’t a lot of places there that are exclusive for adults. Today I’ve decided to focus on somewhere that, although it contains plenty for kids as well, would also make a fun day out for grown-ups. Many of the Epcot attractions I’ll look at might also appeal to some kids, but I tried to choose things that would better hold an adult’s interest. When I think of Epcot the World Showcase comes first to mind. Epcot is home to pavilions dedicated to 11 different countries from across the globe. Each … Continue reading

He’s Got Her Wrapped Around His Little Finger!

Chase has been dating Amy, a 28 year old single mother, for over a year. Things are getting serious; they’ve even been batting around the “M” word. She is attractive, kind, funny, considerate, and they both love to fish and camp. In a nutshell, she’s everything he’s been looking for in a life partner…except for one little thing… a twenty-eight pound, 3 year old little thing, named Marcus. “Now don’t get me wrong, he’s really cute and everything” admits Chase, “but she jumps every time he cries! And I mean every time! He has totally got her wrapped around his … Continue reading

Planning Ahead for Holiday Work

Okay, I know that it is only September. Well, actually in a couple of days it will be October. Let me preface this holiday-related post by saying that in the past, I have not been the kind of person who does a lot of advance planning and thinking about the holidays. I will also always be irritated by what I like to call the “Christmas Creep”, the putting out of the holiday merchandise at the stores that seems to creep up earlier and earlier every year. In fact, a couple of weeks ago I saw Christmas trees and decorations out … Continue reading

Planning School Layouts in Advance

If you are like the majority of us, school is either already in session in your neck of the woods, or it is just about to start. In any case, you might find yourself with more time to scrapbook, and if this is the case, school layouts might be a top priority. School memories are important to capture each year as your child grows. I still enjoy looking back at the photo albums my mother put together reflecting my grade school and middle school years. I did my own high school album, and it is still one of my favorites … Continue reading

3 Ways to Have Fun Preparing to Go Back to School

Can you believe it’s almost time? In some parts of the nation, children have already returned to the classroom and are hard at work. The rest are busy with school supply lists and last minute summer fun. Here are some ways to make it fun while preparing for back to school. Fling or Fine Fashion Show – Nobody likes trying on clothing before school starts, but many households follow this practice each year. Finding out what fits, and doesn’t fit can be fun though. While children are trying things on, making it a fun time by staging a fashion show. … Continue reading

Traveling for Fun

As a single parent, it can be hard enough to structure your life in such a way as to make travel for work possible and plausible—when it comes to trying to justify and carve out time and resources for personal travel, a vacation, or fun—it can be downright impossible. We single parents have to wrestle with the guilt and the guilt-trips, in addition to the scheduling and resource allocation. But, that doesn’t mean that a little travel for fun is completely out of the question for single parents… In the early years of my single parenthood, I just couldn’t talk … Continue reading

Things I Never Thought I’d Think About

I just wrote a blog about my disbelief at the atrocities experienced by African-American students at Little Rock Central High School. This is so far out of my own experience that I tend to forget it can happen today. In fact, I took my Korean daughter to Little Rock and thought nothing of it, even when I was standing in front of Central High. Actually, we noticed a fair number of Asians in Little Rock. But there are unexpected times when it rears its ugly head. I think it’s happening a bit more often now in conjunction with an anti-immigrant … Continue reading

Planning for Holiday Fun

The day after Thanksgiving is a great day to do a little planning for December. I don’t like to fight the crowds, today. I like to stay home with a piece a pie, a fire, a pen and a calendar. Our paper has a listing of upcoming local events. I penciled in parades, the special lights at the zoo nights, and the dates of a local production of the Christmas Carol. I wrote in dates of Christmas parties that I knew about. The kids and I figured out a good day to put up the tree and to decorate the … Continue reading
