Planning School Parties

We talked about becoming a room mom on Friday. When it comes to planning your school holiday parties, there is no time like the present. For instance, we've already started brainstorming ideas for the Winter Holiday party, which won't take place until mid-December. Among the ideas we have include a Winter Wonderland theme. While it may seem cliché, remember, we are planning for a kindergarten classroom.

Among the ideas we have in mind are an ice machine that makes fruity snow cones for a treat and ordering foam pieces that allow the kids to build their own snow men as well as another set of crafts that they can work on prior to the party to put together a holiday wreath for their homes.

Children enjoy making things and getting bits of glue and fluff stuck on their hands. They don't necessarily need boatloads of candy or other sugary sweets to enjoy themselves. It's important to talk to your room teacher to find out what they have on hand that you can use.

For example, my daughter's classroom has an overhead projector that is connected to the computer. I want to design a PowerPoint with holiday images and words that can be played during the party - as a game - students that can identify images or stories or words get little prizes in the shape of ornaments and such.

Think outside the box when you're planning for the holidays. I'll be offering more room mom, school party planning and even home holiday planning ideas here. Our next major holiday is Columbus Day. I'll bet you thought it was going to be Halloween! But that too is coming.

Keep checking in here at Family Fun for Halloween, Columbus Day and Setting the Clock back ideas as well as reviews, games and other entertainment that can help you and your family to enjoy a number of different activities this September!

What holiday parties do you remember from school when you were kid?
