Put Together a Dress-Up Wardrobe

Does your little princess love to play dress up? Help her put together a stylish, size appropriate dress up wardrobe and she'll have hours of fun making and wearing these outfits and accessories.

Every celebrity needs a fur stole (faux fur of course), and your little star is no exception. Go to your favorite craft store, fabric store, or the craft section of a super center, and pick up faux fur strips. They have several varieties and colors, which only cost a few dollars. You can also find packages that contain an assortment of faux furs for just a few dollars more.

You'll need a strip of faux fur about 5-6" wide and about 2-3' long. Most of the packages contain shorter pieces. Simply cut each piece in half and sew them together end to end. Instant stole!

Use beautiful material remnants and clothing you no longer wear to make fancy dresses. Mommy's spangled blouse from two years ago, the one that doesn't quite stay buttoned any more, will make the perfect evening gown. Remove the sleeves and add gold or silver ribbon for a sash. Cut off old, dresses that are no longer in style -or a bridesmaid's gown- to make them just the right length for you daughter. You can also use old slips or nightgowns. You obviously don't want your little girl running around in lingerie, but such items are made of gorgeous, wispy material. Cut off the bottom of a slip or nightie and make into a lovely, floor length skirt.

Your little girl must also have some jewelry. String together necklaces and bracelets from beautiful beads, and make fancy earrings too. You should be able to find clip on earring forms in the craft section (or sometimes even the jewelry section), and you and your daughter can make jewels worthy of any princess.

Next, instead of letting your little darling trip around in your high heels, pick up those adorable plastic ones for little girls to go along with all the cute stuff you made. You should be able to find a variety at any discount or dollar store. If they don't have the color she wants, let cover the heels with colored contact paper or vinyl decal material.

My girls love dress up clothes. I like the idea of faux fur. Don't forget a crown, the dollar store usually has some of those too.

Mine girls love to dress up too. We have made some cool stuff. Crowns are great! We usually add leftover items from Halloween to the dress up wardrobe, so we have various crowns from princess costumes over the years.
