Simple Summer Fun

After an extended school year, brought about by using too many snow days in the winter, classes are officially over for kids in my neck of the woods. And by woods, I mean fenced in backyards where parents can let their kids roam free before cabin fever sets in. If you are looking for simple projects to keep your kids entertained during the endless days of summer, consider the following: Fluorescent Slime Materials: Glow-in-the-dark paint Elmer’s glue gel Borax Hot water Directions: Combine one cup of hot water with a cup of Borax.  Stir until the Borax won’t dissolve anymore. … Continue reading

Simple Life is the Most Rewarding

Leading the simple life is not only less expensive, but it can be more rewarding, too. The last few days after Christmas have been wonderful. We’ve spent no money at all, but we have been having the best time. Days have been spent playing board games, cooking good meals, watching a gentle snowfall and the winter birds outside our windows, visiting neighbors, making a snowman, drinking hot chocolate, watching a Star Wars marathon, and just being together. It has been a perfect time after the busy Christmas rush. The simple life. Today, we’ll go to church and maybe hike through a … Continue reading

Simple Ways to Preserve Easter Memories

Pretty Easter dresses, bonnets, bunnies and flowers. These are just some of the many holiday images you likely gathered today. Now that Easter is just about over, the next step is to start figuring out how to display all the memories you captured. For starters, review all of the Easter-related photos you snapped. Then, ask yourself if you have enough to create a comprehensive layout. If not, you might consider adding a few spring-themed images, such as daffodils, Easter baskets, baby birds, a cross or some fluffy chicks. These generic spring subjects can help supplement traditional Easter shots taken of … Continue reading

Simple Easter Project

Time is ticking down to the great sugar rush. My daughter has a list made to leave out for the Easter Bunny in hopes that she can persuade him to leave a few toys instead of the traditional chocolate eggs and pretty Peeps. Wishful thinking, kiddo. She also wants to leave out something more for the bunny (besides carrots) to sweeten him up a bit, you know, just in case. Of course, she came to me to see what “goodies” I had to leave out. I suggested lettuce, but upon further consideration I decided that it might make the bunny … Continue reading

After making your copy, you can color in the pictures if you like, and then cut out the images and have them laminated. There are two parts to each … Continue reading

The Simple Things in Life

Sometimes the simple things in life can be so much fun. Even doing ordinary things together as a couple can make a lot of difference. Recently we had our son and his wife and children staying with us for a few days. One night we were sitting down after the children were in bed, two married couples doing crosswords and other puzzles. Only one of us, our son had the crossword book. The first couple of puzzles tested our memories of world events from things like Olympic Games to music or movies or other world happenings of the time. It … Continue reading

Simple Games

One of the things I find particularly magical about children is their ability to pretend and imagine the most amazing things with the least amazing materials. Their minds are unbelievably active and this contributes to both the joy they make and the joy they share. I’m very much looking forward to my son speaking and walking as his imagination will be more readily accessible rather than only in his mind. When I was little a big cardboard box was a fantastic and wonderful thing. Forts were immediately created! Windows were cut, drawbridges were constructed using duct tape or dental floss, … Continue reading
