Simple Valentine's Day Projects for the Entire Familyby Michele Cheplic | More from this Blogger 12 Feb 2009 08:41 AM Here are a couple of simple crafts suitable for the entire family. Whether you make these sweet cards as a group or you plan to help the kids design them for your spouse, parents or in-laws, they are appropriate for all skill levels. Take a look: SPONGE PAINT VALENTINE'S DAY CARD Materials: Construction paper or card stock Paper plate Red or pink paint A new sponge Scissors or pinking shears Pen or crayons White craft glue Glitter, sequins, ribbon, buttons, stickers or other embellishments Directions: Fold paper in half for a traditional card. If you want a smaller card (the non-folded type that is often handed out by students in schools as Valentines), fold and then cut a piece of paper into quarters. This will give you 4 cards. Cut the sponge into a heart shape, making sure the heart will fit on your card. Pour a small amount of red or pink paint onto a paper plate. Dip the heart-shaped sponge into the paint. Gently scrape off any excess paint, then carefully stamp your card. If you want a glittery heart, sprinkle some glitter on the wet paint. Let the paint dry. Write a Valentine message, then glue on embellishments to decorate the rest of the card. HEART IN HAND VALENTINE'S DAY CARD Materials: Two to three pieces of construction paper or wrapping paper in different colors (red, pink, lavender, green etc.) Pencil Marker Scissors Glue Directions: Trace your hand (or your child's hand) on construction paper. Carefully cut it out. Cut out some red, pink or lavender hearts out of wrapping paper or construction paper, making sure they are small enough to fit inside your handprint. Using green construction paper, cut out some leaves. Glue some hearts onto your handprint cutout. Write a message to your Valentine's Day sweetheart.
