Spring Fling Activities

One minute I’m blogging about spring break and the next thing I know Old Man Winter decides to come out of hibernation and dump 14 inches of snow on my neck of the woods. So, instead of featuring more fun boredom busters I planned to unveil during my kid’s spring break, I’m scrambling to find additional projects to use as snow day fodder. Here’s what we worked on today: Bird Feeders: I didn’t have spare pine cones to coat with peanut butter and bird seed, so we used stale bagels instead. If you have a younger child, the bagel works … Continue reading

Unique Spring Flower Crafts

Spring has not exactly sprung here in the Upper Midwest, which means it is highly unlikely that we will be seeing tulips or daffodils blossoming in time for Easter. However, instead of lamenting about our lack of flowers I’ve decided to make my own to use as decorations for the upcoming holiday. These candy floral creations are simple to craft, and best of all, they last a lot longer than real flowers. CANDY SUNFLOWERS Materials: 1 Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup 1 package Reese’s Pieces Candy or M&Ms 2 yards of 1 1/2-inch wide wired yellow ribbon 1-12-inch length of heavy-duty … Continue reading

As long as the kids are home from school this week (or next) you might as well keep them busy with crafts you can give away at Easter. FINGER PAINT EGGS This craft requires blown out eggs. If you’ve never blown out the inside of an egg prior to decorating it, the instructions are as follows: First, use a needle to create two small holes in your egg (one on the top and one on the bottom). Fun for Kids on the High Seas

Pint-sized SpongeBob SquarePants fans don’t have to travel to a pineapple under the sea to get up close and personal with their favorite Nickelodeon character. Thanks to Norwegian Cruise Line, kids can have a blast with SpongeBob and the rest of his watery friends while floating on the open sea. Earlier this month the cruise line announced that it will be partnering with Nickelodeon to bring SpongeBob and other well-known Nickelodeon characters to at least two of its ships in time for Spring Break 2010. The first Nick and Friends cruise will depart in April on the Norwegian Jewel. It … Continue reading

Easter Fun for the Whole Family

Kids are wired on Easter even when they haven’t devoured a basket full of chocolate, so make sure you are prepared with a variety of activities to keep them entertained. Here are some Easter games and projects to keep the fun going on Easter Sunday: EASTER EGG GAMES If the weather is nice, head outdoors to play Easter egg games. Use several colored eggs (hard boiled) and one white one. Roll the white egg in the center of the yard (or large living room). Next, take turns to see who can roll their colored egg closest to the white egg. … Continue reading

More Easter Fun for Kids

It’s a rare year that our Easter weather is actually spring-like. Typically, April in Wisconsin is not the time to be putting away winter jackets and boots (that doesn’t come until July). However, this Easter might just be decent after all. If the Weather Channel is right, we should be waking up to chocolate bunnies, sunny skies, and temps in the 50s on Easter morning. If Mother Nature cooperates we will be celebrating with an outdoor Easter egg hunt. If not, we’ll be indoors executing Plan B. We won’t be letting nasty spring weather put a damper on our Easter … Continue reading
