Spring Break Fun

Personally, I would never consider taking a spring vacation to a ski resort, but that's mainly because I am surrounded by snow and cold for roughly eight months of the year. For other families (like my brother's) an ideal spring break consists of hitting the slopes and snowshoeing along finely groomed trails.

If you are looking to take a ski vacation this spring, consider the following options in beautiful Utah.

SNOWBIRD RESORT

This resort offers full-service slope-side luxury lodgings suitable for serious skiers and snowboarders, as well as beginners. The resort is known for its extreme slopes, but also features an outdoor Plaza Deck and cavernous Snowbird Center for the not-so extreme to hang out at while their crazy companions hit it hard on the slopes.

Snowbird boasts Utah's longest season, with slopes open into June and even July. It also has North America's only ski tunnel, a 600-foot hollow housing a conveyor lift. For $72 you'll receive access to 2,500 acres; a 125-passenger aerial tram and 10 lifts, including four high-speed chairs; and an 11,000-foot summit with a 3,240-foot vertical drop.

BRIGHTON

This is where the locals ski. The mountain is legendary in Utah, but despite its prestigious history it offers a low-key atmosphere that's ideal for families traveling with young children. It's the only one of the four Cottonwood canyons resorts owned by a major ski corporation. However, that doesn't mean you will get lost amongst the glitz and glam of live bands and raucous beer bashes. Rather, Brighton offers a single 20-room lodge, a few small restaurants and lets the natural setting speak for itself. For $58 adults can ski 1,050 acres of terrain; ride seven lifts, including five high-speed chairs; and explore trials on the 10,500-foot summit with 1,745-foot vertical drop.
