Spring Projects for Preschoolers

Even here in Colorado, we are finally seeing some spring colors!

Here's a few classic preschool and kindergarten art projects to welcome those spring blooms.

For a blooming 3-d tree branch either paint or draw a large tree branch on some paper. Glue on a few green paper leaves. And then glue on popped popcorn to make blossoms. The popcorn really does look a little like blossoms, especially from a distance.

Handprint projects are so cute. On a large piece of blue or white paper have the children paint green flower stems. Help them press their hands into bright colors of paint and then on top of the "stems". The handprints make great flowers. This can be a really cute card or gift for Mother's Day, or a cute thank you note for a teacher.

Paper plate flowers are another classic craft that sprouts up all over preschools this time of year. Cut out large petal shapes from different colors of paper. Glue the petals around an inexpensive paper plate to make huge flowers. I've seen a few variations on these over the years. You can draw a face on the inside of your flowers or paste a photograph of the child. More than one preschool teacher I know makes a garden of these flower plates with all the children in the class. They pin the plates to the bulletin board and add green crepe paper streamers to be the stem. Another variation is to paint the inside of the flower with small black dots. Fingertips or pencil erasers dipped in black and brown make great looking seeds. Or you can glue down real sunflower seeds. The seeds don't stick all that well with regular glue, but the children have a lot anyway.
