Tea Party Birthday Parties

Tea party themed birthday parties can be loads of fun, and aren't hard to put together.

For invitations consider a teacup-shaped card with a string and tag attached mimicking a tea bag. You can write your party details on the tag and on the cup.

Dressing up is the most fun part. You can invite your guest to come dressed up, or consider it a party activity. Position a mirror in the party room so the girls can see how they look. Provide boas, tiaras, and loads and loads of beaded necklaces and bracelets. Thrift stores and garage sales are great places for find inexpensive jewelry, hats and even inexpensive bridesmaid and prom dresses.

Be sure and take lots of pictures when everyone is dressed up. Sending the children home with a picture of their dressed up self is a nice treat. The pictures can also be included in the thank you notes.

Now that everyone is properly dressed, it's time for tea! Brewing a couple of tea bags only takes a few minutes. A tea pot for pouring is a nice touch and the children have fun pouring the tea themselves. Depending on the age group of your guests you can go with traditional Earl Grey or regular black tea. For younger children you might go with something milder. My children have always loved wild berry, and peppermint teas. For that matter, you can serve just about anything and call it tea.

Go all out when decorating the table. That said, I wouldn't put anything fragile, valuable, easily stained, or sentimental on a party table. Accidents happen. Think about flowers, shining silver nut trays, place cards, and real napkins. For serving you can use a child's tea set or find all sorts of different teacups at a thrift store. The children can take their cup home as a party favor.
