Touch Memory

Number of players: 4+ Ages: 3+ Materials required: Small objects, such as small stuffed animals, bottles, glasses case, pencils, etc.

This game can double as a kid's party game, or a great game for bridal and baby showers.

Players should be seated in a circle in a darkened room, or the players should wear blindfolds. Place six to twelve small articles on a tray or in a bin, and pass the tray from player to player.

Each player carefully feels the objects in the tray, trying to determine what each object is.

The more unusual the objects are, the more fun the game becomes. Try to find objects with unusual texture, or that are particularly heavy or light for their size. A trip to a local dollar store will usually yield a variety of great objects, particularly children's toys that are sure to stump even the most discerning guests.

After each player has "inspected" the objects in the bin, put the bin out of the view of the players. Have each player then write down all the objects he or she thought were in the bin.

This is a great way to show the players how fickle the mind is. There will be a huge variety of objects listed that weren't in the bin at all. Since players are forced to rely on their memory as well as only their senses, the game becomes even more challenging. The player who lists the greatest number of objects correctly is the winner.

This game can also be fun at a bridal or baby shower. At a baby shower, the basket can be full of objects for baby care. This makes it a little easier to guess the contents, but any experienced parent, particularly those who've changed a diaper or two in the middle of the night, will have a huge advantage over others. For a bridal shower, the objects can be household objects that can then be given to the bride as presents, or doled out to guests as favors.
