Fun with Father’s Day Photos

No matter where you plan to spend Father’s Day, don’t forget to take your camera along to document the memories.  The photos you snap at the beach, park, pool or right in your backyard can be transformed into touching mementos of Dad’s special day. Take aim at Dad and the kids frolicking in the waves, burying each other in the sand or searching for bugs along a nature trail.  Shoot from unique angles rather than traditional ones and don’t be afraid to experiment with different exposures.  More importantly, ditch the posed shots of Dad standing static with Junior and Jane … Continue reading

Last-Minute Father’s Day Surprises

In honor of all the procrastinating dads in the world, there is no time like the present to offer some last-minute surprises that you can bestow on the man of the house on this Father’s Day: Personalized T-shirts: This simple idea is much cheaper than purchasing Father’s Day themed shirts from big box retailers. All you need is a plain white t-shirt that will fit dad and some colorful fabric-safe paint. Next, gather the kids and have them doodle or stamp their handprints on the shirt to create various patterns. If you have older kids, then have them write sentimental … Continue reading

Unique Father’s Day Travel Gift Ideas

Do you know Father’s Day was started? Apparently, back in the early 1900s a young woman named Sonora Smart Dodd was inspired to honor her dad in much the same way she did her mom each year on Mother’s Day. The idea of giving dads a day of their own caught on, but it took until 1956 for the occasion to be officially recognized by a joint resolution of Congress, and wasn’t until 1972 that President Nixon made it official. If the idea of paying tribute to your dad with yet another tie just doesn’t sit well with you this … Continue reading

Father’s Day, 2008

It’s that special time of year again when dads look forward to all the unique and wonderful gifts that they will receive. Everything from ties to power tools is on the menu. One of the best gifts I ever received was a 12-string guitar. I used to joke with my wife all the time about getting one for my anniversary present. My wife and son went in on this together and purchased it online. I tried to think back to what I used to give my dad for Father’s Day. Nothing really stands out in my mind. Today we mostly … Continue reading

How Murphy, Tabby, and Kitty Did for Father’s Day

After a lot of thinking about what to get Wayne for Father’s Day, it turns out we did pretty well this year. Even if we didn’t find any unique “from the cat/dog” presents, we fared okay after all. The cards were great. Murphy’s stole Wayne’s heart. It was a picture of a bulldog staring up with big eyes. The outside read: “If I looked up to you anymore…” and the inside finished with “…my neck would hurt.” Murph then went on to write a lot of specifics in the card about why he looks up to his “papa” so much. … Continue reading

Make Father’s Day Special

This next Sunday is Father’s Day. I knew it was in June, but I thought it was vaguely off in the future, until my husband so kindly reminded me. It is important to take time to honor the special men in your life, whether it is your father, uncle, grandfather or husband. Often men do not receive the thanks they deserve for all of the sacrifices they make. Here are five ways to help honor the men in your life. 1) Arrange some time for your husband to spend quality and fun time with the children. This should be a … Continue reading

Father’s Day Fun

Father’s Day is rapidly approaching. Poor dads. They often seem to get left out. The kids make cute crafts or write poems for Mother’s Day in school, but not for Father’s Day. It’s a shame really. Dads are important. And good fathers should be celebrated. Everyone likes to know they are appreciated. Shopping for presents for my husband is hard sometimes. He wants more big ticket items like motorcycles, trips, or new computers. And while I am thrilled with mango scented shampoo and a bar of really great chocolate, it’s hard to find anything that would thrill him for such … Continue reading
