Valentine's Day is arriving soon. Do your young children know what it's all about? Here are a few good books for your little guys about Valentine's Day. They will help you explain what it is, what to expect, and are just good fun. If you can't find them at the library, most are paperback and inexpensive from the bookstore or Amazon.com.

Roses Are Pink, Your Feet Really Stink by Diane deGroat

This book is about Gilbert, who writes two not-so-nice valentines to classmates as a prank. But the outcome of his prank goes far beyond what he expected. Hopefully it's not too late for a change of heart. Your boys will like this one.

Lilly's Chocolate Heart by Kevin Henkes

Anything by Kevin Henkes is bound to be wonderful, especially if it has his adorable, saucy character Lilly in it, and this book is no exception. Lilly has a chocolate Valentine's heart. Will she keep it for herself, or will she share?

Mouse's First Valentine by Lauren Thompson, illustrated by Buket Erdogan

Appropriate for the youngest children, this picture book finds Mouse watching his sister making something (a Valentine), but he doesn't have a clue what it is. Kids will love to discover Valentine's Day along with Mouse.

Junie B. Jones and the Mushy Gushy Valentine (Junie B. Jones, Book 14) by Barbara Park, illustrated by Denise Brunkus

It's a mushy gushy mystery! So says the book's description. Junie B. expects to get Valentine's (Valentimes, she calls them), but she doesn't expect a big, mushy card from a secret admirer. Of course Junie B. has to find out who the secret mystery guy is.

Everyone in our family, gender or age aside, is a huge Junie B. Jones fan. If you haven't read these hysterical books to your kids, use Valentine's Day as an excuse to start.
